Okay, we’ll level with you, neither Ed nor Paul mentioned Transfer Deadline Day once during the recording of this podcast. But they did mention United’s loss against Hull City, that nonetheless saw the Red Devils through to a Wembley final, and the joyous 4-0 demolition of Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup.

Ed & Paul revel in another two United wins, worry a little about the impending doom facing both the World Cup and, well, the world in general, and preview the Liverpool game. There are a ton of listener questions, an argument about the merits of Matteo Darmian and an (almost) entirely positive conversation about Wayne Rooney. Whatever next?

In the last Rant Cast of 2016 Ed & Paul celebrate the fact that David Moyes manages someone else and that Manchester United beat his team 3-1. They wax lyrical about Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s majestic scorpion kick, Paul Pogba’s midfield performance and celebrate the fact that for now at least, United seem to be good again.

Another week, another pair of wins for José Mourinho’s all-conquering Red Army. Or something. Ed & Paul look back on victory against Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion, and  forward to Sunderland on Boxing Day, while shaking their heads slowly at the thought that anyone ever thought it was a good idea to give David Moyes the United job.

For the first time in a long time, Ed & Paul get to look back on two United wins. They run the rule over the Red Devils’ win over Zorya Luhansk in a very cold Odessa and over Tottenham Hotspur at an altogether more temperate Old Trafford. Things are looking a lot rosier than they have been of late, but can it last?

This week Ed and Paul look back on United’s thrilling 0-0 draw with Liverpool at Anfield and debate just how parked Jose’s bus was. They revel in the 4-1 (or was it 5-0?) win over Fenerbahce, glory in Robin’s return and look forward to MASSIVE games against Chelsea and Manchester City.

Patreon backers will also hear a 20 minute chat about the television programmes of Aaron Sorkin because that’s how we do.

In this week’s show Ed and Paul meet to discuss Manchester United’s trip to Northampton and the comfortable 4-1 win against Champions Leicester City. United looked like a different team at Old Trafford on Saturday, for no obvious reason that anyone could work out.

They offeran in-depth preview of United’s game against Zorya Luhansk on Thursday—or at least Ed tells us all where they play their home games—and look forward to the visit of Mark Hughes’ stuttering Stoke City.

For Patreons there’s a long chat about the 2005 Ashes series and the special monthly Q&A edition.

Rant Cast 277 – the “actually we’re terrible again” edition

After the joy and optimism of August, Manchester United have crashed into September like some sort of thing crashing into a thing it definitely should not have crashed into. Ed and Paul convene to reluctantly discuss three defeats on the bounce for Jose Mourinho’s men. The subject of Wayne Rooney inevitably comes up, as does chat about Pep out tactic-ing Jose, the abject defeat at Feyenoord and the omnishambles at Watford. In a profoundly against type turn of events, Ed is pretty upbeat whilst Paul is generally miserable about the whole affair.

There are listener questions, music chat on the Patreon bonus content and a very special playout track from one of the very first Friends of the Rant Cast, Awate.

With the derby coming up, we decided to record a little bonus episode, chatting with Bleacher Report’s Manchester City Correspondent and Manchester Evening News journalist Rob Pollard about the City perspective on the game. We talk Pep, obviously, and in spite of Paul’s best efforts to keep the City love in to a minimum, Rob waxes lyrical about the career of Yaya Toure. Rob is very fair minded on United and has interesting things to say about the rivalry from a City perspective and working on a Sports Desk at the global epicentre of football.
