Ferdinand definitely out of Euro squad - good for United, and will prob increase that amount of England hating United fans!
NO CARRICK!!!!!!!!
NO SCHOLES!
Absolutely bonkers selections. Carrick has been the standout English midfielder of the season by a long distance, and there's nobody else except Scholes who even comes close in passing ability. Leaving out Richards is also moronic. Roy looks like he doesn't have a clue.
Nobody rates Carrick though
He's not the same player for England either
Don't know why Scholes isn't going though, maybe he wasn't up for it
Carrick didn't want to be picked. Confirmed by Hodgson who said that Carrick was fed up of being a bit-part player and has retired from England set-up.
Only 15 starts in 11 years according to Daniel Taylor of the Guardian.
Maybe he's already written off the Euros and he's just setting up a bunch of players to fail so no one complains when he drops them for the WCQs.

15 starts is ridiculous.
Alright, Gerrard and Lampard have been the dominant midfield pairing, but Gareth Barry has still managed to earn 52 appearances, and Carrick just 22.
This website ranked eng CMs based on this season's league performance. Gerrard Came top, 2nd scholes, 3rd Carrick, 4th= Lampard/Parker.
The combined score of Barry/Milner was less than Scholes' score and equal to Carrick's.

This site also had Rio & Lescott ahead of Terry.
Carroll scored 3 points compared to Rooney's 35
Their lineup was: Hart; Johnson Lescott Ferdinand Baines; Carrick Gerrard Scholes; Lennon Johnson Rooney
I've a feeling that Roy is playing politics with this team... and it's got the stink of FA interference all over it.
Terry and Rio were never going to BOTH be picked, but picking Terry over Rio is a ridiculous decision, based on this seasons performances alone... never mind that Rio is a better player anyway.
There's a few other daft decisions as well... but Downing takes the biscuit... I don't care if he is left footed... even Liverpool fans think he's shite.
If it means that Rio is ok for the start of next season, then I'm happy with it. What I would love to happen now is that Rio 'retires' from international duty, Terry then gets charged and banned and England are all of a sudden without the pair of them. Which, to fair, might not be a bad thing, anyway...

Rio will rest, Scholes will rest, Rooney will miss the first 2 games...what's not to like if you're a United fan? If you support England, well good luck with that.
I wouldn't be surprised if Fergie has assessed whether a player being at the Euros benefits United and given Hodgson a recommendation based on that.
Welbeck - should start with Rooney suspended, big boost for him
Jones - experience will do him good
Young - should start on the left wing, has missed games through injury so the Euros will be a definite benefit
Carrick - a big player for United, need him to be rested and fit for next season
Scholes - Euros will take more out of him at this late stage of his career
Ferdinand - Fergie quoted that he thought Rio couldn't handle tournament football, suits United for him not to be there with his recent injury record.
Smalling - ruled out through injury
Fergie does have history on this kind of thing too.

There's a lot to like, that's my point. And, if it means that with Rio and eventually Terry missing that the likes of Jones and Smalling get more international experience as a result, that will only benefit Utd in the long run when it comes to club football.
Just hit me how wrong it is for a big lump like Carroll, who is a complete liability , is going and rio carrick and Scholes aren't! Different positions but still!
Rio is a crock and Taggart fucked him by saying that he can't play two games in a week. End of - and besides, Terry, Cole and Cahill provides more club-level continuity. Jones is more versatile and can do a job in any of those position.
Carrick told Hodgson that he either plays a major part or not part - so he fucked him off
Scholes showed how old he was in the last three games of the season, where he was shitted.
I agree, play them three at the back, they just won the cl, as did lampard
what's your opinion on that
I think Carrick's absolutely right to put his foot down, just like Scholes did in the past. It's not like they're pacey wingers or something. If you're not going to structure the side around them, they'd be better off not going, because they'll just be criticised by every clueless muppet when they're dragged on to the pitch in a set-up that's not geared to let them do their thing.
Football according to ITV consists entirely of the physical battle between the big striker and the big centreback
milner parker barry downing
and then henderson
Henderson in for Lampard
Trul, truly grim
tbf this is still probably England's best chance at a tournament since '96.
If they took Carrick I'd have some hope. I'm glad he told them to shove it though. They can't expect him to come running to heel after leaving him in the cold for so long.
I really don't see England getting out of the group. Host nation in Ukraine, hugely improved French side and under rated Sweden side who were impressive in qualifying.
Less hype then previous years as this genuinely is not a good side and missing Rooney for the first 2 games is critical to that.

in midfield they have no talent so no expectation on their shoulders.i think they will do well in a sort of engurland, terrier, running aboutiness, kiss the badge, gaz barlow golden jubilee type way.
Aye, and they'll get done by the first half decent team that passes the ball
you know it's bad when the country goes into melt down cos Lamps is fucked
Not sure our midfield ability will be so important. We could easily play like chelsea in the CL and then go for the counter with speed of Walcott/Young. After all we lost to Germany in the WC on counter attacking goals rather than a possession battle. We only have to beat Sweden and Ukraine anyway. We're not that much worse of from the injuries. Gerrard/Parker was near to 1st choice CM anyway - no one was expecting Lamps to start.
Belgium will be a good test though. They have Fellaini, Dembele, WItsel, Naingollan, Defour in their midfield. They are definitely a better side than Sweden or Ukraine.
