   Terrible idea. Embarrassing. It's not going to get us more season ticket holders and it just looks like (and is) desperation. Don't know if Fergie hasn't recovered from his 'scare' yet, but he didn't look happy to give that statement. Perhaps it's the beginning of the end.

   That has got the stink of the money men all over it.

   Season ticket sales dropped off last year, and maybe they're looking a bit worse this year... so send out Fergie to try and win a few back...

   Desperate is right.

   When Fergie leaves in a season or two, what top manager would want United. Mourinho won't be a puppet for the Glazers - in fact I can't see any top manager want to tarnish his reputation that way. I can't see us realistically doing better than Moyes/O'Neill caliber under the current conditions.

   No money, no voice, high expectations and, I expect, a few stars ready to jump ship after Fergie retires. Not the most attractive proposition.

   Another thing: ST numbers having been falling steadily (but slowly) for the last few years - bar some epic signings that's will only accelerate. It will be interesting to see how the Glazers spin the final numbers considering the recent press release about our massive 10% of the world population fan base. Might also be an important number come IPO time.

    Of course season ticket sales will fall. The economy is going right down the shitter, so football's hardly a huge priority in people's lives when they're struggling to make basic ends meet.
