A story of how overspending for years has caught up with them. No fan of either Glasgow side but the likely weakening or even potential loss of Rangers would have huge ramifications for Scottish football with future TV deals likely to collapse.

Celtic's finances are pretty fucked too, aren't they
It will be interesting to see what happens to the SPL if they lose their two biggest clubs
Presumably shitloads of revenue will disappear and they will have to start again

Nah Celtic have paid down most of their debt now, they've gone from £7m to £2m and look fairly stable - they made £100k profit last year but that'll likely include some element of the £5m they've paid down. They're not in a fantastic position.
No matter how much they bleat on how Scottish football doesn't need Rangers, it really does. Celtic can't really exist without Rangers, and the crows will die without Rangers there to bait / fight with / spit at / sing bellend songs.

I'm Irish and Catholic but would hate to see 'Gers go under. It'd kill Scottish football.

Another sad day for football. Amazing that clubs can generate so much money but still go into administration:
Players wages being out of control the main problem. The clubs should have prevented this but it is also pure greed on the part of the agents & players. I'm sure players would have played for a lot less just to kick a ball around.
If you look at it all, very rarely does one player make all the difference. Its a team game and always will be.

It's not player wages... it's just greed all around.
Players are the reason we watch in the first place, and they are just demanding their cut of the millions being earned by the games money men.
Do you think if a universal salary cap was introduced... it would result in cheaper costs for the fan? No.
United is a perfect example... generates enough money to pay millions in wages, and still pay for the Glazers financial frippery.
How about the Glazers pay their own fuckin bills, and charge the fans less money instead? Not likely...
Rangers are paying for poor management, not greedy players.
"Badges, to god-damned hell with badges! We have no badges. In fact, we don't need badges. I don't have to show you any stinking badges, you god-damned cabrón and ching' tu madre! Come out from that shit-hole of yours. I have to speak to you."Posted 1 year ago # -
The largest cost for all clubs is players wages. They are obscene. The Glazers are not the norm.

It doesn't matter how much the players earn... it's only a percentage of the whole... the biggest percentage, for sure... but the money is there...
Sky pays large to own the rights... fans pay large to see the games live... if all that money doesn't go to the players... who should it go to?
I have no problem with how much players earn... they are the reason I watch football.. if some cunt can earn a 7 figure bonus, on top of a 7 figure salary for running a fuckin bank, that does nothing to improve my life... or some Hollywood twat who couldn't act to save his life, but gives the ladies the screaming thigh sweats every time he takes his shirt off, on screen... or some fluffy, pop music bint, who needs the latest technology just to make her voice sound reasonable, but looks awesome in a short skirt.
As long as the money is being made... I fully support the players claim to the bulk of it.

Don't agree. The large wage bills are why most premier league clubs are either being bankrolled by a sugar daddy or are massively into their overdraft.

And your "Sugar Daddy" owner who pays way above the going rate, because he wants to attract players, that are normally beyond what his clubs prestige and standing warrant.
And clubs like Real and Barca who spend money they don't have, but never seem to get called on it.
Players agents are on commission... and their obligation is get as much as possible for their clients... there is nothing that says the club has to pay...
If anything... it's the fans fault for not refusing to stump up every time there's a price increase on his Sky subscription.

The clubs have shot themselves in the foot too by allowing the transfer fees to go out of control that's definitely true. Every man for themselves mentality. On the note of sky I actually cancelled my sky sports package! I will save not far off £500 a year. The thing is people are addicted to football and everyone takes advantage of it. The Suarez incident has really hit my love for the game. The NFL is far better run. United and the NFL for, the rest I'm not interested in.
