Is anyone watching this? Or did anyone watch this?
It's about the recent stories about gangs of muslim males grooming young girls, as young as 12, for sex.
It's interesting actually because it contradicts everything I thought I knew about muslims. All of my muslim friends come from strong cultural backgrounds, where women are respected and pre-marital sex is not approved of. This is not to say that my muslim mates didn't have girlfriends or sexual relationships as they were growing up but one night stands, rape, porn etc were shunned.
This leads onto the question why males from cultural backgrounds like theirs, then resort to grooming young girls for sex.
My view is that it's a combination of a number of factors all coming together, such as the ease with which (strong) porn is accessible, the unlikely opportunity to have sex with girls from their own backgrounds/communities, the peer pressure within their groups and the inhibitive effects that alcohol has on people. I'd love to say that most girls out on the town these days dress like hookers and give the impression that they want casual sex but this only applies to a minority. One of the girls interviewed suggested that the majority of the girls who were victims were from lower income backgrounds and more susceptible to going with guys in exchange for being bought alcohol and cigarettes.
It's unfair to single out young muslim males but the recent statistics point this way. Perhaps because they are young muslim males, they are making the headlines? A bit like a few years ago when it seemed that only young black males were stopped by the police. Hardly the same, I know, but it doesn't take much for the media to paint a stereotypical picture..
I dunno...
