I think Fergie is looking to bring in one big signing too, unless the selling club insists on insane money, which is likely tbh. It's interesting that City are starting to gripe about prices being high now too, and Barca needs a loan just to pay wages, which is incredible. The fact is that player salaries and transfer prices have gotten well out of hand over the past few seasons, we're really not the only club trying to rein things in and build a sustainable model with more of a focus on younger talent.
I think when Fergie complains about there being no value, he's talking more about the lower end of the market than the high end. It seems impossible now to find players like Vidic and Evra at the money we got them for, anybody with the slightest bit of a buzz about them is £10M minimum these days. If you look at our transfers over the past few years, it's the lower-end buys like Vidic, Evra, Park, Van der Sar that have been really successful. In contrast we've forked out huge money for Anderson, Nani, Hargreaves, Tevez, Berba, which should have provided us with the basis for a whole new successful team, but we know how that has worked out.
