Sir Alex Ferguson dropped Wayne Rooney for Manchester United’s match with West Bromwich Albion. It was the fifth time this season the Scot has left his 24-year-old striker out but Ferguson’s decision to bench Rooney on Saturday was the first time the manager had not blamed the player’s omission on illness or injury.

It opened a window onto the fractious nature of the pair’s relationship. Over the weekend Rooney’s camp widely briefed the media that the player has broken off talks with the club over a new contract and is seeking a move.

But who is to blame for the feud between player and manager: Sir Alex Ferguson for placing Rooney on the bench, or the player for throwing his toys out of the metaphorical pram?

I too think Fergie humiliated Rooney and leaving him out of games has contributed to his bad form. Time for Fergie to go !

i read a story today about Rooney aiming for one big last payday, earning a much as possible and this being that last opportunity, it makes sense but its the agents that advise the players and plant the seeds, the more he earns, gets sold for, the more they earn.

The role of agents in all this is never really brought to light, i wouldn’t be surprised if they were behind a lot of this.

This idea of not offering players a new contract until their last year is far too fucking risky for a top club like ours full of 'wanted' players and foreign wimps who don't like the weather. The only reason we're doing this is to save money. It all comes down to fucking money

Also, whoever decided it was a good idea not to offer Wazza a contract before the World Cup is a daft cunt. I said at the time in Ed's article that it makes sense to get the top players signed up ASAP. Prioritise the cunts FFS before they start giving it the "only god knows where I'll end up" bollocks

All this dog shit has allegedly come about because United informed Ingurlund that Rooney was unavailable due to injury, but Rooney argued that he was'nt. And under an international ruling, any national team can request the player takes a fitness test "if the player so requests" in his desire to play and thats what Rooney did. Rooney had been pissed off that he was being left out due to a bogus injury and was aware that his form was poor but he felt the only way he could get his fitness back was to play matches.

I just wish Fergal would fuck off now and let us move on. I've had enough of his autocratic style, its fookin borin now.

There is only one way in which SAF has managed united you either get in line or get out..Roo is obviously not in the right frame of mind to take on SAF like that..but I know who i trust between the two..
But it hurts to see a player that you have looked upon as your hero turns out to be a cunt…

Let’s see the big picture. SAF is not to blame. The Glazers are not to blame; this is a red herring.
This is not about money for Rooney; it is for his agent. His form has been very poor for 6 months. He is not & never will be a Ronaldo or Messi. He is not United through & through. All the transfer fee WILL be available for SAF to spend. There are two issues:at United under SAF the ethic is “the team is all; individuals are nothing”. The job of SAF is to manage. Rooney accepted this during the goof times. He has not been able to when things went wrong.

He's no Ronaldo but there is a top, top player there who is worth holding on to if possible

Hence the reason Fergie said "the door is always open"

i would have said itis equaly rooney and fergi to blame ntill i heard that rooney had said he wanted to leave in the summer
i cannot understand this at all, what happend back then for rooney to want out?
i always though he would stay for his career and be a united legend, it certainly seemed that way a year or so ago
if he were to join city(which i dont think he will do) it will be a disaster for us.
our best option is sell to madrid for benzema plus cash deal. at least we will get something for rooney instead of paying off the ginger midgets debt

Well I've never hid my feelings on Rooney and think we've seen the best of him. Would be surprised if we got more than £35million for him.

Rooney was a natural Gal... but he got lost somewhere along the way... he could have been very, very special... and at 24, he still could be... but he's got to get his love for the game back.

He hasn't been the same since he broke his foot in 2006 against Chelsea, no matter how many goals he scored against Wigan, Hull, and the like last season. Think of the magic moments Ruud, Beckham and Ronaldo gave us - the moments where you went, 'fuckinell that was special' - there are loads, now think of similar for Rooney. They are surprisingly few. He scored about 10 goals from outside the box in his whole United career. Completely over-rated and over-hyped by the English media. As I've always said, Rooney's exceptional moments were just that, the exception, not the rule.
