think smallings fee was inflated by fact that hes homegrown. same thing happened to the dippers with glen johnson.
as for value weve got bebe AND hernandez for roughly same price as ozil.. not to mention that their combined wages wont come close to what ozil was wanting.
like fergie said in interview, theres no-one out there who is definately going to get us to another level, so why not take a punt on a couple that might in 2/3 years time?

One point some seem to forget here no Player or Manager is bigger than the club, I support Manchester United which was there before Sir Alex Ferguson came and will be there after he came.
Some people need to accept that in the present climate where fans are divided as to what is better for the club that there will be opinions poles apart in how the manager should behave. Some will support what happens regardless others will be vehemently against respect and accept the view of the other person and the world will be a better place but don't call somebody less of a supporter because they don't accept your views.
Once upon a time Sir Matt Busby was considered the greatest Manager of all time at Manchester United, then along came Alex Ferguson who took the club to even greater heights and at some point in time probably later than sooner even the achievements of Alex Ferguson will be eclipsed by another Manager.
At the end of the day we are supporters of Manchester United Football Club !

Great article United Rant but I think the whole “SAF can’t see the value in Sneijder, Milito, etc” is a bit old.
It was last season and we can’t buy everyone. On the same logic Kaka, Xavi, etc would have been great value years ago.
he doesn’t have a crystal ball and signings like Vidic, Ronaldo, Evra, and the Da Silvas (maybe a bit soon to call) should make you trust his methods a little more.
@OllieWillieFC – my point has never been we should sign all these players, my point is there’s value everywhere, even for big name established players. It’s a fallacy that’s used to mask the financial reality at this club and it’s pissing me off that Sir Alex, greatest manager ever, is out there lying to the fans on an almost daily basis. What’s worse, some people actually fall for it. Right now we’re signing kids only because the Glazers want to be able to sell them on. You mentioned two Vidic and Evra who were already established internationals.

just seen a story saying that sòme middle east businessmen has joined the red knights and that the group could wait 18mths to buy the club if need be. Ed, you act like you know whats going on there, any truth to the story.
@Aj – Thanks for the dismissive tone there Aj. Anyway, this is the Goal.com story you’re referring to I believe so I’m taking that with the pinch of salt. Having said that the RKs did attract some seriously heavyweight interest before including attention from China and the Mid East. But remember, this is a group of people trying to achieve two things 1) Return a significant chunk of the club to fan control at some point down the line, 2) Pay a fair market rate given the debt and club profitability. The issue has never been raising money, the issue is where it comes from (i.e. not debt, not 1 investor) and the Glazers’ price.

It’s right that we have to support the club, not Fergie or particular players, but do you really think you know everything better than him? It makes me wonder why you are so sure Sneijder, Özil, Villa etc would all fit in the team so well and have their best performances here. And also why you say those 3 players have no value. I just don’t see your point. OK, buy whoever you want and let’s see what happens. It’s like that. Why can’t some fans be just a little bit positive? You guys doubt any new youngster every time. Why can’t you believe we bought them for some real reason? Oh and you say they might not make it. And what if they don’t make it? It’s clear we have little money and are spending it on younger players in the hope they turn into a money-making project like Ronaldo turned out to be.
If the club really wants to save money they should be looking at not paying Owen Hargreaves a good wage when he hasn’t played regularly for 2 years.

gotta be dismissive on these stories Ed as you can never be sure what is real and what isnt. we read everyday stories that hasnt any truth at all so this could be another one of those, we all heard what MUST intend to achieve but the real question is, can they successfully remove those glazers?. I’m nit a big fan of protest as you know but I am a big fan of the idea and intentions of getting rid o the glazers and sorting out the debt. with any luck the glazers will see sense within the new few months.

I had to correçt these two areas as mistakes were made and I felt I had to correct them. come on glazers sell up, I know MANCHESTER UNITED is valued at £1.2b ($1.8b) but the glazers want £1.5b and the red knights want tto pay apparently between £800m-£1b, somethings gotta give and I believe at some point the glazers will accept £1b for our club as the knìghts are unwilling to up their price.

For me it's a real problem.
My love for United is equalled by my loathing of the Glazers.
As much as I want the Glazer gone... I also want them sent packing in defeat, not with a big fat profit... and I see no scenario where we get our club back and they take a loss.
United fans are too addicted to success to suffer a few lean years in order to drive the price down.
One day we will rid United of these parasites... but it will be a bitter victory, as the Glazers will, without doubt have made a fortune.
Urrrggghh... just the thought of it stirs the bile in my gullet.
