A leftfield suggestion, but he may be starting to think he is the "Guvernor" a la Ince. Maybe its Fergie mindgames trying to get him to fire vs. Newcastle and City, however how about this:

Out

Rooney to Madrid - 55 million

In

Eriksen (Ajax) - 17.5 mill
Rodwell (Everton) - 17.5 mill
Shaqiri (Basel) - 12.5 mill
Cahill (Bolton) - 7.5 mill

Would give us some of the best young players in Europe, some defensive cover and keep the dressing room in order. Eriksen could fit into Rooney's role, with a mixture of Ashley Young and Berbatov playing there too. Its a squad game these days and if Rooney's ego is getting out of hand ship him off. I would only sell to a team outside of England.

I'd rather keep him to be honest. He's our best player and out of that list I would want Eriksen.

Rather than focussing on Rooney getting too large for his own boots with his 250k a week, we shld focus on Fergals' transfer fuck ups with the likes of Anderson, Bebongo, Diouf, Obertan - the lack of tactical nouse and inspiration phelan provides - Gills shit negotiation tactics - and Fergal's pig headedness - and our shit medical team.

The problem is the management not Rooney - who just needs a slap to calm him down.

Tbf if I was Rooney I'd be pissed of with my manager buy crap, failing to invest, shit tactics.

Even so, we are lucky that Citeh have fucked up like us which will mask the problems.

Yep you are probably right would just go down the bottomless Glazer debt pit.

Part of me just resents idiots like Rooney who are basically thugs but good at kicking a ball. 250k a week is just ridiculous.

Would definitely like to see Eriksen at OT, quality player, but plays in a similar role to Rooney so its unlikely.

I disagree with you here. He has no excuse for going out on the titles and flouting club rules. He is an idiot who is being deceived into having an inflated view of his standing in world football.

He and his advisers hoped that Ciddy will win yesterday but Sunderland's result has trumped them big time - they certainly leaked the info to the press. Again, they look like idiots.

For people like knoby who think the sun shines out of Rooney's arse they should remember that he has played well in only ONE of the tournaments he has played in - Euro 2004. He has played in 3 champions league finals and scored in one. He was responsible for our worst misses in the game at Basle. He really needs to have a reality check.

Without Sir Alex he will be a bum like Gascoigne.

yeah it was his fault he didn't score in the first barcelona game, who cares that he was given the left wing graveyard shifting man marking etoo, and who cares he played the chelse game injured and naturally couldn't last the full 120, these are all things cal ignores just like he's ignored every good giggs or scholes performance of the pst 5 years, fucking stupid cunt

The Gazza comparison is an interesting one, Fergie has definitely been important in trying to keep as much on the straight and narrow as possible, but he is flawed as a person.

I think he will be gone in the summer, hasn't appeared particularly happy in a United shirt for a good while now.

Moronic idiot you are. Considering yourself clever cos you defend everything English especially Rooney. Scholes was pants after the '07 season. Giggs has been since the end of the '09 season. That he does play well after every 15 games does not change anything.

It wouldn't surprise me but, then again, where would he go? He won virtually everything at United. The only reason to go to City would be for money - but he's already one of the highest earners at Old Trafford. He will never move abroad and he doesn't fancy London.

Edit - OK. I suppose that, if he went to City, he'd be playing with better players but would he really truly be happy there? I just don't see the point.

He's a very good player, sometimes great, but his efforts to join City in 2010 are unforgiveable. I wouldn't mind if he left provided we reinvested adequately (say Goetze plus a top quality striker), but we wouldn't - so I'd rather he stayed.

Goetze could be a good signing too, one of him or Eriksen though. Send Rooney to Madrid, they would take him for big money as the "last piece" of a neverending jigsaw puzzle.

Yep the Glazers really are the lowest of the low. Their Tampa Bay Bucs completely tanked at the end of the season and finished bottom of their division. Prob means more chance their will be draining more money from United when the Bucs start losing more money due to lack of ticket sales.

What a ridiculous notion, that we'd replace Rooney with an expensive signing.

We may well sell Rooney this summer... but the money will go into the Ronaldo pot... and never be seen again... and we'd be told that the money is there if Sir wants it, but we have enough quality already in the squad.

And if Rooney is getting too big for his boots... it's because he's one of only a couple players that properly represents the tradition of a proper United quality player anymore... and he knows it.

I don't care where we are in the table... it's obvious to anyone with eyes, that United are on the decline as far as its standing as a world class team...

Ten years ago we were a dream destination to the worlds best players... with only Real, Barca and the Milan teams more of a draw... now... we're not even the biggest team in England... and agents probably don't even rate us top ten in Europe.

Sell Rooney, and we might as well just get used to Europa league football, cause the Champs league would be out of reach.

Cal, as far as I can see he didn't go out to get mashed up but went for dinner with his missus. either way, sure if he broke taggart's orders fair enough he needs to be slapped down but i wouldn't sell him - he is still one of our best players - that's the end of it. based exactly on what you say, I agree he's not worth 250k a week but i wouldn't sell him - he can still change a game. he needs support though which is not going to come from anderson or giggs or fletcher or carrick in any consistent form. it's rooney fault he has been shit but also's fergie's pig-headedness and failure to improve midifield since summer.

I'd be okay with us selling Rooney if we had the likes of Aguero, Ronaldo etc. Even City are now ready to sell Tevez but that's only after they bought a ready made replacement in Aguero.

Let's first get rid of Anderson, Diouf and Kuszczak before thinking of selling even Gibson.

We can not afford to sell Rooney now or in the summer in footballing terms.

He is an excellent footballer and has a will and desire to win matches that we need - heck, any football club will appreciate it. What I am fed up with is this current situation where his people are quick to leak info to the press that can only destablise our club. Personally, I feel that these leaks and his current off field behaviour is influenced by what I see as an inflated opinion of what the football world at large think of him.

We are stronger with him in it.

Another option would be to pretend we're still a big club by keeping our best player while we buy new ones. I agree with your thinking about what's needed though, except we don't need another centre back. We've got loads of quality there already, I'd rather we sorted out whatever is causing at least half of them to be crocked half of the time. We've three urgent situations: midfield creative, midfield bollocks, and the left flank.

Left flank: Bale (too expensive), Hazard (too expensive), or Shaqiri -- he might be the one we could realistically get
Midfield creative: Gotze (too expensive), Sneijder (expensive, crocked), Eriksen -- Eriksen would be the one for me, a proper central midfielder he looks like the old Scholes plus a bit of tackling
Midfield bollocks: De Rossi (might be available cheapish), M'Vila, Rodwell (might be a Carrick in sheep's clothing)

If we addressed even one of those issues this January I'd be delighted.

As mentioned this is probably not going to happen, but you can see what you can get for your money instead of Rooney. As long as he went out of the UK, i don't see why there couldn't be life after him. Ronaldo has won very little since he left us. No one player is indispensable.

Another poor display. He needs to go in CM where he can more of an effect on the game, whenever we play poorly he gets isolated up top.

The Leeds loss a few years ago was a prime example. We named him and Berba up top so it looked like an easy win, but Carrick and Anderson were outbattled in CM and Rooney never saw much of the ball.

Rooney and Jones would never be bullied in midfield like we were the other day. When we get Smalling back stick Jones and Rooney in CM with Carrick/Cleverley/Morrison - Welbeck up top with Berba and Hernandez on the bench. If we are chasing the game we can go from 451 to 442.

He owes us after his off the field antics and lack of consistent performance. If he continues in this inconsistent vein until the end the season get him sold before his value plummets. As shown above we can get 4 international players (some of the best young prospects in Europe) for the cash/the wages we are paying him at the moment.
