FFS Squiggs, operating in the red is one thing, running up the sorts of debt Real and Barca do, and STIIL being able to spend the way Real did, on Ronaldo, Kaka, Benzema... the only English clubs that do that are the Renties and the Bitters... and they're spending their billionaire owners money. And level playing fields?... are you really comparing stadium seating differences, to tv revenues?
what about sponsorship? and at 40 quid a seat at Old Trafford, about 25 home games a season, that'd afford a Rooney a year at least, were transfer budgets to come direct from ticket sales.
champions league tv revenue
and lucrative tours to the USA - bolton won't sell many tickets to Americans on a pre season tour.
i think the spanish need to sort thier shit out though, though that would probably bugger the league for a while and the liga BBVA would probably not like to see their top two teams uncompetitive in europe.
I reckon though, if football were to go the American Football route, you'd lose legacies - Manchester United would truly become a 'franchise'. It wouldn't represent a power in football anymore, it would just be one of many different coloured shirts.
