I knew you'd be first to start a thread. It's like a perversion you have. Or a desperate cry for attention.
Powell for No 7 shirt?

he'll be loaned out like the others unless he's got Rooneyesque talent.
Sir Ryan Giggs? No no no. Sir Paul Scholes say.Posted 11 months ago # -
He looks like he should be in school.
Imagine being 17 years old and having your name all over the papers associated with a club like United.
The stuff of fantasy.

I've seen quite a bit of him - the Mrs and her family are from Crewe and I get dragged to a game more often than not when we pay them a visit.
The lads definitely got something. His games more about dynamism than trickery - hes more Gerrard than Scholes in that sense. He's young, so it's not surprising that his decision making needs to be improved but he's got bags of ability and there have been several times where I've seen him do something and thought 'fuck me'. No suprise at all to me that a big club has snapped him up. I think he might suprise a few people this season - if he gets a few runouts in preseason it wouldn't suprise me at all if he broke through and played for the first team this season. He's got a bit of arrogance about him too - cocky, but in a good way. The sort of bollocks you need (or should need) to play for United.
Pleased with this one. he'll be a player.

Nice, Dinkin
So we've actually signed a midfielder then albeit to replace Pogba

To be fair Sid I've seen him play in midfield and upfront as a second striker. Hes impressed me every time ive seen him play, which is about 7 or 8 times. The first game I saw him play he stood out a mile. I remember asking my father in law who he was and he raved about him at the time. He said at the time that he'd be in he premiership within 2 years and half joked that 'our lot' could do worse than sign him. Looks like he was right!

This one could definitely work out for all parties. 2 out of 3 so far guessed correct on the United summer signings, Clyne signs and its 3/3! I can see United looking at Willems of Holland though if not this summer, next summer as a long term replacement for Evra. He ticks all the boxes, we could well go double Dutch next summer with the purchase of his teammate Strootman as well, especially if Fletcher can't make a full recovery.
Don't think Lewandowski will be coming though, if we are going to play with mainly Kagawa or Young in the hole and 1 main striker there's no point. We'll have one of the top 5 strikers in the world in Rooney and two of the best young ones in Welbeck and Hernandez. Plus 3 U21 international strikers in Macheda, King and Will Keane. We couldn't afford 20 mill for Lewandowski this summer anyway.

With him being young I think he could be molded into an attacking midfielder like Cleverley or a number 10.

I know Fergie said one or two, maybe three signings, but surely the likes of Powell/Clyne shouldn't count as a proper signing. Don't get me wrong, it's nice to finally get some of the promising, hyped talent after missing out on Ramsey etc., but I was thinking 2/3 proven signings.
Apparently we're not even looking at Modric (that's not the player we need anymore anyway), but when we talk about the midfield it's always about who will partner Carrick. We have Cleverley, Scholes, Giggs and Anderson. The bigger and more immediate problem is who can stand in for Carrick? Fletcher could do it, albeit with less style, but if he doesn't recover, we have very lopsided midfield options. I hope that either way, Fletcher's future is sorted out before the season starts, because that's the only way we'll sign another midfielder.
For everyone hoping Anderson leaves, I think he'll get at least one/two more years. Firstly, because we can't afford to replace him and secondly, when Scholes/Giggs retire in a year or two our midfield will be looking a lot thinner. Also with his physicality, (if he stays fit) he could easily be our version of Ramires. I know everyone wants to see him at AM (surely not going to happen with Kagawa/Powell signed now), but I think he has genuine box-box potential.
There's no way we sign Willems. The future of LB is Fabio. Why do people forget that? Fryers will likely be our backup on the odd occasion Fergie decides to give Evra a rest while Fabio is on loan. Clyne would be good as an actual RB to backup Rafael. Not sure why it wouldn't have happened yet though.

Powell must have some fantastic raw instincts and confidence to perform so well in professional football at the age of 17, even if it's league 2. I'm cautiously excited about this one.

i'm with uncle on this

I would count Powell and Clyne as major signings in the glazer era. Both will cost 3 mill plus (clyne compensation) and are highly rated. Add Clyne in that's a spend of around 20 mill, doubt there will be much more money available unless we sell two senior players. I.e Berbatov plus one. Berba will go I think but no one else.
On the subject of lb I would suggest fryers was the better long term option than fabio as he's left footed, Fabio will be more a utility man I would expect. Has Fryers resigned yet? Willems has all the attributes and some big European club will sign him and solve their lb spot for the next decade plus. Players who start for a major international side at his age come very very rarely.

Rumours of Macheda to Besiktas loan or permanent. V odd considering how Bebe tanked there and Macheda tanked in two other loan spells. Doesn't anyone learn from their mistakes! It could work but it's a long shot.
