Apparently Fryers is looking at leaving now as well.

So... who wants to explain why... we not only don't compete for world class talent any more... but we can't even hold on to our best prospects either?

I'm not saying it's the Glazers fault... again... but we never used to have these problems.

Are United trying to include pissy financial clauses that other clubs aren't?... Or are we just not offering the money that other clubs are?

Maybe a lot of these kids recognise that we may be at the start of a period where we're likely to decline - the general quality of the team has gone backwards over the last 2-3 years, we show no sign of seriously replacing our key players like Scholes and Giggs, and Fergie is bound to retire in the near future. Maybe they just don't want to be part of it. Or maybe its just greed - perhaps we're complacent about offering kids the prospect of financial rewards in the long term and other clubs are prepared to offer a few extra quid here and now?

Fuck knows. I'll be honest, and i never thought i'd say this in a million years, but I just don't feel the same about United anymore. Or indeed football for that matter.

Would hope that Fryers would stay, if he goes then there are some serious questions to be asked. Fryers, Tunnicliffe, Keane and Keane to stay will do me.

I don't know the ins and outs of the contractual situations of these players but it can't be a pure coincidence that, since we started waiting until the final year of a player's contract before electing to renew, agents have started kicking off and players themselves have started playing hardball with the club.

Wasn't Rooney in the final year or had a year to go or something?

In that respect, the Glazers are responsible.

Controlling wage growth seems to be one of the club's priorities, so there are probably pretty strict limits set for the likes of Pogba and Morrison. After hearing so much shit talked about Pogba and Morrison over the past few years, if they both go, shouldn't we just shut down the fucking academy?

Although some might say if Pogba goes elsewhere more cash then we got what we deserved, since we pinched him from the French in the first place.

Since I'm always on the lookout for a proper left-footed attacking midfielder, this James Rodriguez lad at Porto looks alright. Seems to be banging in the goals, only 20 years old, with a selling club. Our kind of buy, since we're obviously not going to spend the money needed to buy Bale or Hazard.

Related to that, how would people feel if we sold Nani over the summer? I'm not saying I want him sold, but to be honest at the moment I'm not sure that I would be that upset about it. He hasn't kept up last season's form.

FFS... let's sell our best players... that'll help.

If we were a proper top tier club, spending proper top tier money, then maybe I could assume that we would replace him with quality... but that's not what would happen and you know it.

Come on Bernie... get with the program Dude... we're a "soccer franchise" now... not a football club.

I'm not saying I want to see him sold, especially not with anybody else of quality coming in, but last season was the only season where I felt he was reliable enough to be considered one of our best players. One of our most talented, definitely, but how often does he really get it done? If Young is on form and Valencia's fit, I'm not even sure I'd put Nani in my starting 11.

Don't see it myself.

Assuming those figures are right, 20k doesn't sound extortionate to me... not for a player that's attracting so much interest.

If Juve are willing to pay, then they must think he's worth it... I mean this isn't a case of City or PSG, or that Russian outfit luring a questionable talent away with silly money... is it?

This is supposedly our top young player... who's after first team action... being made to sit and watch while a player like Park gets picked, and then runs about the pitch like his boot laces are tied together... and Giggs and Scholes look like staying on for another year...

A player who is so obviously going to be a very good midfielder... left to run his contract down to his final year... at the age of only 18... I mean that's the sort of thing you do with Giggs and Scholes... not fuckin class teenagers.

Even if Pogba is an arrogant little twat, who's gotten too big for his boots... he's only 18... and destined for big things... are we supposed to be surprised?...

This is our fault...

It's not the wage that's the problem, as you say 18-20k aint that much really, it's the 2M Euros paid to the agent that's stopped Pogba re-signing.

United have a policy of not paying players' agents for re-signing. Instead we buy homeless Portuguese players and give agents the money that way. Seems like we weren't willing to this time.

I don't think Pogba is a box to box player, he can't really tackle, he's more of a Veron type classly ballplayer to me. Can't see him getting many games ahead of Vidal, Pirlo and Marchisio at Juve.

Perhaps... but he's not the first agent to take the piss, and he won't be the last... these slimy greed merchants are the norm these days, and if you want top players, you've got to accept that, and learn to deal with them.

2 mill to the agent and 20k a week is a relatively small price to pay for a player we so badly need... especially when stacked against the cost of bringing in such a player.

We were told Sneijder was a no go because he was £30 mill and 200k a week... and besides, we were going with youth and Pogba was nearly ready and blah, blay, yadda...

Bollocks!

He's right footed but plays on the left. I think he sees himself moving centrally eventually.

I'm totally sold on this story. I really don't think Fergie would be there, the night before a game in Manchester, unless he had a very good reason. We're obviously interested. Whether we get him or not, is a completely different story.

I wouldn't assume it's Hazard he went to see... who else played?

Was there any 18 year old, unknown defenders playing?

I'd look for them first, before I looked at a player most of the big teams in Europe are watching... Ferguson can't afford Hazard, so why would he be scouting him?

I just don't think Fergie goes to France the night before a United game to watch a low profile player that will likely not cost much. This has the hallmarks of an important purchase - just like missing the Scunny CC game last year to watch De Gea.

United spent the best part of £60M last summer. I think there's money there for players at the right price. If we sell Berba, there's room for a new high-ish earner.

I'm not saying it will happen, it probably won't because he'll have a more interesting offer (Real, Barca) or a much bigger wage offer (City, Chelsea). But I don't think you can just dismiss the idea.

Yeah, right, we spent a shitload of money last summer, but it seems we spend big in batches - at the start of a 4 year cycle perhaps

After we won the league in 2007 we spent big and brought in Ando, Nani, Hargreaves, Tevez, the Twins etc. then apart from Berbatov (a one off signing) and Valencia (to replace Ronnie), we had a relatively quiet period

So I can't see us spending big for a while now

And if Pogba signs, then I can't see us signing a midfielder in summer... Gutted

Joe Cole? Seriously, SAF better have anotehr 50m pounds to spend this summer because we need quality signings just to be competitive in Europe, let alone get closer to Barcelona. Problem is he may have to spend it all on one player instead of 3.

Is Junior Hoilitt available on a free in the summer I heard?

Interesting player, I thought he was just a bit of a trick pony playing for Blackburn, but he has come on leaps and bounds recently and while we are well stocked with winger he could be a very good player in years to come.

He's been linked with Arsenal, apparently. I don't know enough about the player to have an opinion on how good he is but he seems to be very highly rated.

On the Negative: Not as quick as Young, but his game doesn't seem to be about crossing. A negative would be that he seems to come in on his right at every possible opportunity and you would lose natural width.

On the positive side: He very much has an eye for goal, he seems much more comfortable coming into the middle and definitely you could see him playing behind a striker as he has clearly worked on his strength and times his runs well. Dribbles very well and not into blind alleys like he did at times last year.

A free transfer would be a cheap punt tbh.

Agree and I think several teams will be looking at him because of the reasons you listed above. And being Canadian doesn't hurt either!

Hoillet is a decent player, but he's too similar to Young for United to be interested - although the pricetag will be appealing. I can see him going to Spurs.

The 'rumour mill' has is it that Nathaniel Clyne is telling his mates that he's agreed in principle to join United. He's seems like a dependable RB with speed, he's on a free and given the Da Silvas injury proneness and the likelihood that Smalling and Jones will play more as CBs next year - it makes sense.

Assuming Pogba, Giggs and Scholes re-sign, I think our transfer business is shaping up as...

Clyne - Free transfer but compensation payment to Palace

Young defensive midfielder - Ideal world: Martinez/M'Vila; Real world: Tiote/Cabaye

Young attacking mid/winger/forward who can play wide and centrally - Ideal world: Hazard/Munian; Real world: Gaitan

I don't see us buying a fourth striker (unless it's a young guy we've never heard of) to replace Berba/Owen/Macheda - who are all likely to leave, as I think United will shape up more like 433/451 next year so we'll get by with 3 recognised strikers as well as Young/Giggs/New signing who can play in the hole behind a striker if need be.
