Gee big surprise. We were never going to bring in this kid Moura or RVP or any big names and all Fergie's talk is to sell season tickets and to help the bloody IPO. I agree with Bill - just PR and typical BS to cover for the Glazers and the fact we can't (or won't) sign quality players for the areas where we really need to strengthen. I am getting so fed up with the nonsense and utter crap that SAF and Gill are trying to peddle to us and this whole "real fans' nonsense is pathetic. The real fans know what's going on and they will lose us quick and just be left with the muppet supporters.

We were hooked on the game in the 80s & 90s, the skill & excitement. Now there is too much money around its fair game for all sorts of Klingons. Very very sad but we shouldn't have expected anything less.

Although we all know we need a CM etc. (can't believe Fergie admitted it), I wouldn't be surprised if we were going after a striker. I'm not saying Fergie going public isn't for PR/IPO reasons, but the players always say how often Fergie tells them to try and score to improve goal difference. Having lost the league title this way, I think its realistic for Fergie to try and bring another goalscorer, particularly given none of our strikers can be relied upon to provide a steady stream of goals.

More than enough especially if we play Kagawa in the hole.

Fergie wrongly or rightly will stick with that. The main problem is defensive cover, we have no reserve left back at the moment.

United usually use 25 senior players (including 3 keepers) plus 5 fringe youth/reserve players a season, so 30 in total.

Don't think there is any way Berba will stay. Macheda/Bebe/Keane all need to take a BIG step to become proper backup. Only way not buying works is if we're committed to a 1 striker system. Even then. Hernandez/Welbeck need to take a big step themselves - how confident would you be going into a big game without Rooney?

Jones' 5 games at CM were his worst in a United shirt. He doesn't have the passing ability to play at CM in our current system and his positional sense is clearly not there yet (for CM or CB). Occasionally looked a bit like Terry in terms of mistakes in positioning leading to tackles. Think for next season (when/if all our CBs are fit) he should be our backup RB as both Evans and Smalling are better than him at CB.

Not sure LB is a priority, but given Evra's excellent injury record and ability to play 40-50 games/season as well as Fabio's return next year (probably as a much improved player) means giving Blackett/Brady a chance may well be worth it for their long term future. ANother 1st XI standard wing back couldn't hurt though.

Fergie has already said Powell needs to beef up before joining the 1st team - be very surprised if Tunnicliffe was used this season outside of the League Cup. Leaves us with 6 CMs - 2/3 will retire in a season. Surely it makes sense to bed them in before we're left high and dry. Then if somehow Ando/Clev turn into top players in one season, we'll once again be strong in the most important part of the pitch

No point including Keane in that list, as much as Fergie might have wanted him to make the step up, he did his cruciate in for the U19's before there Euros so he won't be appearing any time next season for the foreseeable future.

Anyway bit of a moot point as there are still plenty of strikers for that position, unless Bebe goes out on loan, Berbatov leaves, can't really see much action. It's all very well that we are one striker down with Owen leaving but lets face it, Owen was more interested in Horse Racing than football.

Plus it's not great for the talks over Welbeck's contract is it, "cheers Danny you've done really well, even getting in front of Hernandez, so next season enjoy sitting back on the bench as we are bringing someone else in... oh and please sign a new contract".

Look this is what we have, welcome to Glazersville. A value utility defender is all we will be getting. We might buy a decent cm next summer with Scholes and Fletcher gone.

Not sure that's true. Rather, he knows there is a good chance the move won't go through and doesn't want to burn any bridges with his current club just yet. If we only signed players whose dream it was to sign for us, we'd really be shooting ourselves in the foot.

Of course - and surely not too far-fetched given our stature. Also, I think there's a bit of a gap between want and dream - Moura could want to come here - as a stepping stone to dream club Madrid etc. Don't think it makes any difference in performance though.

Been away for a bit - what happened with Moutinho? People get bored, or is it just because Fergie didn't mention him?

If we are to buy a CM I have a feeling we'll wait for Modric to move first (as with Hazard/Kagawa) before finalising a move. The way it's going it could be another year. Modric is a player worth waiting for though.

Really curious as to who our PL signing will be. Can't believe Fergie will break such a long running habit. Modric to Madrid, Allen to liverpool, Baines too old, Cabaye too expensive. Sandro/Fellaini may be the best defensive options, Dembele another.

Moura has a clause in his contract... he gets 20% of any fee, which rises to 30% end of the month.

Supposedly this is the problem... Sao Paolo want what they want, and then for United to pay Moura his cut on top of that.

You can see why Moura is keen... whatever happens, him and his Daddy come out of it £5/6million richer... before we even mention his wages.

It's the problem with a lot of South American's full stop though isn't it Alfonso. So many of them own bizarre % stakes in themselves or have other interest groups involved, a la Tevez and Mascherano.

It sort of surfaces here when you have clubs who agreed to sell on percentages which results in them haggling over the fee to supplement the £800,000 they have to pay to some poor football league club. Whereas this is more the selling club expects to get 100% of the fee it wants and regardless of the shady practice that have got them into the position of owning only 80% of the player can't get its head around why a club would only want to pay 100% of what it should be, not 120%.

Sir Alex Ferguson updated the transfer situation during a press conference in Shanghai. "We've been trying all summer to add to our squad," he said. "We've got Kagawa and Powell and we're working on one or two other things. I have nothing to tell you in terms of confirmation as to whether any other players are joining us at this moment in time. This is more like the Ferguson we know, none of this "yeah we've bid for Moura, and Van Persie". Still I imagine it's the usual stringing along.

Re: Chelsea, if Torres doesn't score a shitload this season with the amount of ammunition they are giving him then heads will roll. They signed Thorgan Hazard, as well didn't they (Eden's brother), if that wasn't some dodgy verbal agreement with Eden then I don't know what is. I'd be pleased with the big signings they've made although arguably I'd be concerned that they'd been buying the same type of player for a position that there is not already bad cover for and not dealing with the the problem of the old guard, getting older. Defensively they have issues at right back, although if the stories about Cesar Azpilicueta from OM are true for £7 million then that might be the best signing they make out of the lot.

Oh and I'd also be concerned that as usual it is the Russian making these signings not RDM.

Well kids lets kiss any lingering (not that there was much anyway) hope of anymore signings. The IPO looks like it's being binned as its gone down as well as a turd in a swimming pool, due to the price and terms. Short term, not good for finances at all...

interesting that out of the chelsea signings (so far), marin is looking the best over the likes of Hazard. Only £7 I think. Could be a bargain for the 'German Messi"

Roman shouldn't really be buying the players (if it really is him making these decisions) but how upset would Utd fans be if the Glazers bought Modric over Fergie's head? Not the right way to do things, but doesn't have to be a -ve.

United will definitely sign one more player.

Chelsea will still come 3rd with these players. They have had their pants pulled down over Hazard and Oscar. The thought that for 5 million more you could have had Lucas instead of Oscar is crazy as Lucas is the better player. Marin is alright but was too lightweight for the Bundesliga and could be the same here. I think Mata is a better player then all of them anyway.

If Torres doesn't find form which he hasn't for two years. What good are 8 attacking midfielders when you have no options upfront really.

4 of their AMs goal totals last season: Hazard 21, Mata 12, Oscar 13, Lampard 16. Think most in Brazil think Oscar is better - believe he is starting for Brazil tomorrow over Lucas. If Chelsea wanted to, I don't think they would shy away from an extra £5.

With Marin, I thought the whole 'PL is too physical for skilful players' myth had been debunked.

I strongly believe Bebe will have a good, if not great career, barring injuries.
He messed up last season, but the talent was there.

I don't see why we need a striker, Van Persie will be good though but this Moura lad? United haven't done well with South Americans for various reasons- Veron, Tevez, Anderson and Heinze. I love the twins though.
He seems to have an agent I wouldn't want to deal with, seems a bit dodgy if that % transfer clause is true, never heard of that before.
And most of these players want to leave for Spain anyway.

The transfer was being investigated, I don't know if it still is. But the agent, who had only just become his agent took a rather large cut. It was all very odd, as he had only just moved to the club from someone else for £100,000 or so. Nick Powell apparently had a lot of interest, wouldn't call it competition though. I'd rather United signed players who actually wanted to come to United, none of this tarting themselves around other clubs and then accepting United after they make them the best offer (becoming a rarity these days anyway).

The ever reliable Goal.com say we are going to make a £12 million pound bid only for Baines, Galatasaray want Berbatov for £5 million, oh and the Daily Mail are suggesting Victor Wanyama from Celtic. No good for us though as the midfielder is tired of being played in defence....
