It’s Liverpool’s year, it’s always their year. Touted as just about every pundit’s tip for the Premier League title, the Dippers have blown their domestic chances and crashed out of the Champions League in the matter of weeks. Benitez’ side managed a 1-0 win away to tiny Debrecen but crashed and burned as Fiorentina beat Lyon in Italy.

With Liverpool’s domestic ambitions shot, most boards would fire Benitez’ arse without delay. But the hapless Spaniard will keep his job because the club’s owners can’t talk for long enough to make a decision, let alone afford the massive pay off.

On the day Ryan Babel demanded out of the club – a rat jumping a sinking ship – prey gentlemen, a minute’s silence please!
