Fergie looks to Rooney for Wolves tie
Wayne Rooney is ready to “take off” and fire Manchester United to the Premier League title, says Sir Alex Ferguson. The manager is backing 25-year-old Rooney, who scored twice against Aston Villa on Tuesday, to find some long-awaited consistency in the final months of the season.
Rooney is included in United’s travelling party for this weekend’s fixture against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux, with the Reds protecting a five-point Premier League lead. Ferguson is likely to pair the former Everton striker with Dimitar Berbatov in attack; the Bulgarian, who has 19 goals in all competitions, was yesterday named Barclays Premier League Player of the Month.
Indeed, Ferguson can call on an almost fully fit squad for the trip – Rafael da Silva returns after suffering a concussion at Blackpool and Darren Fletcher is fit for selection despite coming off against Villa. Park Ji-Sung is available but is unlikely to feature after the South Korean played six matches at the Asian Cup.
“Rafael should be OK,” Ferguson said on Friday.
“He has trained. He should be available against Wolves. I don’t think we’ve got any other injuries from Tuesday night. With Fletcher, we’ll assess him today. What happened is that his eye closed and he couldn’t see the ball properly. So we had to take him off. I’m sure he’ll be OK.”
Ferguson will also be without Gary Neville, who retired on Thursday, although there is no guarantee that the defender would have made the Scot’s squad anyway. The United manager was effusive in his praise of the 35-year-old this week and hopes that the defender will stay part of the “Old Trafford family” in a coaching capacity.
Anderson could come into the side, with Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs rotated, and Gabriel Obertan is in contention for one of United’s wide berths despite rumours that the Frenchman put in a transfer request this week.
Yet it is Rooney to whom Ferguson now looks, with the striker scoring just his fifth and sixth goals of a frustrating season against Villa. Win or draw at Molineux and United will complete a club record 30 games without Premier League defeat, in a season of unusual mediocrity from both team and star player.
“Hopefully – and there’s every chance with scoring the kind of goals he scored the other night – that he’ll take off,” said Ferguson of Rooney.
“Goalscorers are like that and hopefully that’s what we’re going to see with Wayne. He’s got 14 league games, European games and FA Cup games – he could easily get a good average.
“What Wayne has always had is a fantastic energy to play in a game. He’s always committed to doing his best. The bonus is, as we saw the other night, he got two goals.
“Last season he was very consistent, but in the previous years he has scored in clutches of five or six games. But if he can get the consistency of last season then we are going to benefit from that.”
Meanwhile, Wolves’ manager Mick McCarthy is under increasing pressure at the bottom-of-the-table club, which has lost six Premier League fixtures in a row since winning at Anfield in December.
The Irishman is hardly aided by injuries to key players, with Stephen Hunt suffering from a calf strain, and Michaels Kightly and Mancienne out with knee trouble. However, Jamie O’Hara could make his début for the club after joining on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.
Indeed, complacency could be United’s biggest threat against the Midlanders, who lost heavily to Liverpool last week. And with a Champions League double-header to come against Marseille before games against Chelsea and Arsenal in March, United’s players will be wary of focussing elsewhere this weekend.
Still, Rooney says the United squad is aware of the renewed Chelsea threat, who strengthened with £70 million worth of new talent on transfer deadline day. Despite making similar losses in the past financial year the Londoners’ owner Roman Abramovich appears to have rediscovered his lust for the club over the winter.
“Certainly we haven’t written them off,” Rooney told MUTV.
“They’re a strong team and we know if anyone’s capable of going on a good run, it’s them. But we know we have to just do our job and we can’t really look at what they’re doing.
“We just have to concentrate on what we’re doing. It’s really up to us now where the title goes, and hopefully we can win that back.”
In that is the rub. Unbeaten in 29 domestic league matches – 24 of them this season – the title is surely now United’s to lose. Five points clear of Arsenal, eight of Manchester City and ten ahead of Chelsea, Ferguson’s team head into the Spring in a commanding position.
The side is in good form too, playing some of the best football this season against Villa.
Ferguson says that just 30 more points 14 games will win United the title. That United has won the last six matches against Wolves since a 1-0 Premier League defeat at Molineux seven years ago only bodes well.

mongoletsi - February 5, 2011
I fear Taggart will use O’Shite and Gibson against a “lesser” team today… but it does seem that around this stage he’s settled on the 1st XI he trusts for the run-in. I think today’s squad especially will say a lot…
Ashish - February 5, 2011
I’m expecting a 1-3 for United.

Alfonso Bedoya - February 5, 2011
Bollocks!
Even a poor performance from us will be enough to beat this collection of duds… no matter how hard they work.
Rooney has found his scoring boots… McCarthy won’t know whether to stick or twist… over mark Rooney, and Berbatov will do ’em… concentrate on Berbatov and Rooney will tear ’em up, and if they’re not careful Nani will slip in… we simply have too much threat… and McCarthy will play to NOT lose… but he will anyway.

With Evans in the side we’re always going to look liable to concede goals. That was fucking pathetic defending for their 2 goals. He literally just stands there staring into space. It’s like playing with 10 men.
Midfield is shit as usual.
We’ve been reduced to playing long balls from back to front because Carrick and Fletcher are too shit to do anything decent with the ball.
If we fuck this match up, we should be questioning whether we deserve to win the title at all. A gift wrapped opportunity to take a 7 point lead ahead of some huge games.
We daren’t fuck this up. Not now.

Sheesh - February 5, 2011
What is it going to take for these idiots to wake up this season. Far too many matches where we have blown cold.
danniitronix - February 5, 2011
cunting chavs are gonna be up for tmr now
danniitronix - February 5, 2011
get the midget on ffs
uncleknobheadforfucksake - February 5, 2011
on come ebank blake to wrap it up
Sheesh - February 5, 2011
Pundits were speculating who would trip us up this season. Nobody thought we would get taken down by wolves. arsenal have not had that bad a day as they had first feared then.
brianofnazareth - February 5, 2011
It was only a matter of time to be honest…we’re very average at the moment and it was going to catch up with us…
I’m glad because I don’t want Ginsoak deluded any longer
danniitronix - February 5, 2011
5 mins added – come on – wake the fuck up
uncleknobheadforfucksake - February 5, 2011

Could add 5 weeks today wouldnt help.
Alfonso Bedoya - February 5, 2011
Ferguson will blame the pitch… you watch.
danniitronix - February 5, 2011
fuck it – wld rather have the kick in the bollocks now – Taggart will slap them up in training and get these cunts playing again
sidney - February 5, 2011
Yeah, and not the fact the cunt didn’t bring in more quality when he had the chance
brianofnazareth - February 5, 2011
Fergie will say that it’s a monkey off their back finally losing…
I say Carrick, Evans and the rest of the cunts are to blame!
han - February 5, 2011
oh well
we fucked up
simple
Alfonso Bedoya - February 5, 2011
Rubbish from United… but to be fair, Wolves defended very, very well.

shite, been coming all season.
brianofnazareth - February 5, 2011
Rio is the new fucking Woodgate!! fucking glass twat! Evans you’re a Tin-Tin looking cunt, Carrick if I ever see you out I’m going to twat you so hard you spineless, gutless wankerfuck!!
Rooney…. you wanted a pay rise? fuck off you’re SHIT!!
Start with Javier from now on.

I was wrong…. and you can f,off as well fatcanadiantosser
danniitronix - February 5, 2011
OK – we needed a kick in the arse – hope Taggart knows how shit we were.
evans was a useless – why not smalling first, what the fuck did rooney do, carrick should be shot, there shld be a full inquest
when is cleverly coming into the squad?
and we have to play Citeh next? jeeeeeez
Chavs will smash cuntpool tmr.
han - February 5, 2011
need to start the run again
fucking citeh cunts to come
wolves will still go down – good fucking riddance
sidney - February 5, 2011
Dominated away from home again
The league is off unless they get it fucking sorted. 7 away games left ffs
It could and should have been sorting out by kicking Evans in the head and getting rid of the cunt, and bringing in some proper proven quality in midfield
I don’t get how Foster was axed for being shit and costing us points, and Evans hasn’t been. The Irish cunt has cost us fuck knows how many points this season
han - February 5, 2011
fuck wolves
this was their world cup final
raised their game as we knew they would
shame our cunting players didnt know
Sheesh - February 5, 2011
Danni. We have been waiting for these players to take their kick up the arse all season. What makes you think that things will be any different now? Bottled the chance to go 7 clear. You have to wonder whether that will prove to be a costly turning point in the season. City next week ffs. Now we have hardly any margin for error.
madredmonkey - February 5, 2011
this may wake them up a bit, something has to .
han - February 5, 2011
evans
carrick
fletcher
hand back ur wages
and rooney can go and fuck a whore with his
abject
Bill - February 5, 2011
Prob will go back to 4-5-1 after that souless performance.
danniitronix - February 5, 2011
just seen the replays – evans was a fucking ass
this was a Taggart fuck up – its as plain as day that Smalling is a gazillion times better than evans
did you see his Zidane spin through 2 Wolves players – he shld be investing in Smalling not this fucking excuse for a defender. he can’t handle it – he has no bollocks.
never thought I wld say it but
PARK YOU DOG EATING CUNT, COME BACK
Sheesh - February 5, 2011
this sort of result has been coming all season. The warning signs have been there for all to see. Now we are under pressure not to fuck up for the remainder of the season. With champions league games coming up, I think we will fuck it up as we are always shit after a european game.
sidney - February 5, 2011
A kick up the arse won’t change the away form. We are being tactically outplayed and outmanuvoured
West Brom, Wolves, Sunderland, Fulham etc are better than us with the home advantage
Add on top of that inept defensive displays from every cunt in our team, but most consistently Johnny fucking Evans who should have been axed last year after he fucked up his second chance. Fuck giving him time to adjust and all that bollocks when a title is at stake. He should have been dealt with in the same way Foster was. Not get rid entirely, just keep the cunt away from the 11 – the squad – the training ground and kick the cunt in the face a couple of times for being a prick
uncleknobheadforfucksake - February 5, 2011
nothing will change after this result dannii you can’t suddenly make shite players into good ones,
we need top quality instead we signed some 3rd choice ladygaarden cunt
the title will go now, we’ve got nothing away from home
danniitronix - February 5, 2011
Taggart is for blame for not putting on Smalling for that shithead Evans.
Although I’m the only supporter of Park on here, just fucking hope that when he comes backs – his zip and confusion factor will add more to our game. Also we have Valencia to come in.
Even though Rooney did shit – at least he put a shift in, so did Evra, Nani, Giggs and Raf but its SPASTIC errors that cost us.
Without Rio we have absolutely NO leader – and it shows.
I’ll say it again, and I will keep on saying it. Rio is not just a genius himself but he makes others play much better – Vida and VDS; I’m fucking furious with Ginsoak for putting on Evans, we he had Smalling.
danniitronix - February 5, 2011
I hear you but Rooney is not shite, he can fucking deliver – it’s just not clicking.
You can go on all you like about Park but that dog eater is a better option than Carrick. We also have Bellendcia to come back as well so Giggs can play in middle if needed.
We also need a leader on the pitch and that man is Rio. Even Vidic’s distribution today was a bit shit. they are fucking clueless at the back without him.
all I can say is thank fuck we have 4 points cos we are gonna need it
uncleknobheadforfucksake - February 5, 2011
fkin ruined a great motd tonight
danniitronix - February 5, 2011
lol – deffo not watching it with that smug cunt Hansen, that cunt of a man Shearer talking about Man Yoo and that pussy magnet Liniker
Bill - February 5, 2011
Definitely shows that without Rio we are in trouble. Smalling wasn’t even on the bench before Rio got injured, that is probably why Evans played.
I think this season has proved the Smalling is our 3rd best CB. He also is as close to Rio as we have on the roster.
No urgency at the end was really irritating!
sheesh - February 5, 2011
It’s been confirmed that Ferdinand will be out for 2 weeks. Well that’s the title gone, then.
I don’t understand why we look like champions at home (ok, purely in terms of the points we’ve accrued if not by the performances) but relegation battlers away from home – with these exact same players.
sheesh - February 5, 2011
Both Rooney and Berbatov were equally as bad as each other today, by the way. Taking one or the other off was not the answer.
uncleknobheadforfucksake - February 5, 2011
teams cack themselves at ot thinking we’re a good side when we’re not, they’re up for it at their groundss and show us up for what we are
city won’t cack themselves and will play for and get the 0-0
Bill - February 5, 2011
After that performance a draw v. City will be a good result. Go 4-5-1 with Rooney up on his own.

arssenals next six are wolves stoke sunderland at home, west brom away blackburn home blackpool away
then they’ve got liverpool home and bolton away
then us
must be title favourites
danniitronix - February 5, 2011
fair enough Bill. still fuming.
sheesh - February 5, 2011
Yeah, and don’t forget that they’ll be out of Europe soon enough.
I ‘assume’ we will get past Marseille. More Champions League football for us means more league matches where we are shite after European football.
I think we’ve blown the league today, irrespective of the 4 point lead we have right now. I think we’ll beat City but get caught out against Arsenal and Chelsea.
Had we won today, the game at the Emirates would have been one where we could afford to draw. Now I see it as a ‘must win’, I genuinely do. If Chelsea win tomorrow, we will surely have to take at least 4 points off them.
City now is absolutely a ‘must win’.
Ted - February 5, 2011
Carrick had to go off, and not before time. The guy is totally ineffectual. I fail to see how he has survived so long. Surely today will finally convince people that Chicken tikka is just another Olly. Berbatov should never have come off. He’s the outlet, He’s the brains behind the operation regarding getting the ball up there and keeping it there. When he went off we had no plan B. Their keeper never had one single save to make in the 2nd half. The midfield is fuckin dreadful. That today was not about ability, it was about bottle, and Wolves shown us what its about.
danniitronix - February 5, 2011
a lot of truth in that – but they will get whacked by spuds, shitpool and chumpski – they have a lot of grudge matches too – all wide open
danniitronix - February 5, 2011
dont think we have blown it per se – see today was telling for Arsenal as well
basically its squeaky bum time for Chavs, us and Le Arse – all of us will drop points but perceptive re; UCL – that has got to be impt
Bill - February 5, 2011
Yep maybe its because we haven’t lost in the league for so long, or its a dark winters evening but I’ve not been so depressed about a game of football for a long time!
danniitronix - February 5, 2011
Taggart@
“We are disappointed. It’s been a long run for us. The players have done us all proud but in the second half we didn’t really get going. They are a handful at the set pieces as it proved today. It was an opportunity for us to continue our great run but today was a great disappointment.”
sheesh - February 5, 2011
This sort of result has been coming for a long time. We’ve played the odd game where we’ve been decent such as Blackburn at home and Liverpool at home, but on the whole the quality of our football has been poor.
We have too many passengers in the side. How Fletcher got picked ahead of Anderson today, when he has been utterly abysmal all season, is beyond me. Yes, Anderson has been inconsistent but playing matches breeds confidence. I feel a bit sorry for him in that respect.
I put down the lack of investment in our midfield last summer due to the fact that there was a World Cup – but we must sign proven quality this summer. Fergie’s acceptance that what we already have is acceptable is actually starting to get very worrying, though.
We’ve ridden our luck for much of the season. One look at the comments of mongs on Red Cafe tells you that even some of our own fans still can’t see this.
uncleknobheadforfucksake - February 5, 2011
danni arsenal have already played city twice, they’ve only got us and liverpool aat home and spurs away left in terms of big games, and they’ll be buzzing after winning the carling cup
Ted - February 5, 2011
========================================================================================
In all fairness Bill, its been coming. Just a bit embarrassing that yet again we drop maximum points to a team thats already relegated. We have a terrible habit of repeating our own history. Its just annoying that we have to continue relying on Scholes and Giggs to get us out of the shit. When everyman and his fuckin dog knows the likes of Carrick and Anderson should have been shipped out 2 seasons ago. They are clearly not United players. Our midfield is as bottleless as iv’e ever known it to be.
Well they’d better find some and quick, cozz our season now suddenly starts to get really difficult.
uncleknobheadforfucksake - February 5, 2011
chelsea twice as well
Bill - February 5, 2011
I agree this could have happened in many of our away games this season. I think Anderson has potential and at least he puts a shift in. Carrick just looks like he is on morphine half the time – wake up son!
sheesh - February 5, 2011
If Arsenal dropping points today wasn’t going to be enough to incentivise the United players to go out and perform, I don’t know what else could have done the trick.
We will pay the price for shooting ourselves in the foot. I really think we will regret today’s result at the end of the season. You can never expect to get a result against the other title rivals but you can expect to get 3 points against relegation fodder who lost in mid-week (if you turn up).
I wonder what our players are thinking half the time.
danniitronix - February 5, 2011
ok mate – fair enought but they still have the Chavs – i hear you though but am not giving up yet
Ted - February 5, 2011

There’s too many in the squad who squat to take a piss, thats the problem. Would Robbo, Incey, Bruce, :evil:Keane have lay down like that? “NO FUCKIN CHANCE”

fucking awful motherfucking performances

han - February 5, 2011
the last time we lost to those cunts was in 2004
united top and those cunts were bottom then as well
well played the lads anyway to keep the run going – now just hammer city next week and all will be forgiven
Calvino - February 5, 2011
Ferdinand also got injured that day and another ‘Celtic’ striker scored the winner: Kenny Miller!! And guess who went on to win the league that season? Arsenal!
I had a bad bad feeling about this game that I tried so hard to shake off. I did not see it so I can’t really comment on the performances. We have too many passengers and without Valencia, a lot is being asked of Nani. But how come Elokobi beat Vida to that header from the pictures all over the internet?
Bill - February 5, 2011
You are right about Ince, Bruce and co. Strong characters are few and far between now its all about step overs and hairstyles!
Tevez is obnoxious but he is definitely a winner in that kind of old school mold.
herbie simms - February 5, 2011
Match-fixing. Thats the only way I could see United losing this game.
Robbo - February 5, 2011
United lost because the cunts were to complacent again and because that ginsoaked Jock cunt played spastics like Evans.
Ted - February 5, 2011
=======================================================================================
Its a wonder the FA don’t haul Fergie in.
For giving Carrick another game.
Alfonso Bedoya - February 5, 2011
I don’t agree with a lot of the shit being spouted here.
We weren’t very good, that’s true enough…. but it takes 11 to win a football match and we were playing a couple men short. Carrick and Evans might as well have stayed in bed. We didn’t have much defending to do, but when Wolves DID attack, Vidic was on his own… and Carrick… fuckin hell… did he do even one fuckin thing today? Seriously, name just one thing he did… just one… did he even touch the ball once?
Our midfiled was so useless, that there was nothing between defence and attack… no bite, and no support for Rooney and Berbatov, who I thought played fairly well, but they were consistantly surrounded by defenders… with no threat at all from the middle, McCarthy was allowed to focus on those two… Nani was great in the first half, but then turned into an idiot in the second.
Scholes helped when he came on, but by then we were already doomed… Fletcher has gone back to the player he was 3 years ago… and Scholes needs a help now… which he just didn’t get.
I still think we’ll win the league, because Arsenal, Chumpski, and the Bitters are just as likely to drop points as we will.
Too bad as well, because it seems only a full blown collapse will show Ferguson, what everyone else seems to know… our team is full of fuckin holes.
“Badges, to god-damned hell with badges! We have no badges. In fact, we don’t need badges. I don’t have to show you any stinking badges, you god-damned cabrón and ching’ tu madre! Come out from that shit-hole of yours. I have to speak to you.”

uncleknobheadforfucksake - February 6, 2011
pointless player pointless in front of the cameras
saying ‘at manchester united’ and ‘its very disappointing’ over and over again don’t cut it
han - February 6, 2011
29 games unbeaten in the league is a fantastic achievement
credit to the team
as long as carrick, evans, gibson and to a certain extent fletcher stay away from the team for the rest of the season, another decent run will come
sheesh - February 6, 2011
Arsenal have easier fixtures remaining and I think a relatively early exit from Europe will help them.
I said before the start of the season that I didn’t think we would win the league simply because I didn’t think we would be as consistent as our rivals (although I thought this would prove to be the case with Chelsea, and not so much Arsenal).
We’ve played shite all season and, by some miracle, have managed to reach top spot. I don’t expect this to last until the end of the season. A result like today’s has been coming for some time.
A kick up the arse was long overdue before today. I don’t see how today’s result will change things in that respect. Even if Fergie reacts, will the players up their game? Are they good enough? The away form suggests otherwise. If they’ve played shit for several months why should we pick up our performances all of a sudden?
herbie simms - February 6, 2011
The team is full of holes and SAF just can’t see that!
Today he said how good Wolves were with their set plays.
Wolves are on the bottom of the league heading to the Championship league. SAF also blamed the defence. Poor excuses coming from the manager. Wolves scored 2 so United should have scored 5 or 6. Look for example at the Everton game. Blackpool scored 3 but Everton scored 5!
The midfield has been a problem but SAF just overlooks the problem and places the blame somewhere else. Does SAF really have any money to spend on players? I wonder.
Do you know that if we had a couple of world class midfielders, we would be so far ahead in points from the rest of the teams! We would have wrapped up the league already.
Ashish - February 6, 2011
Clearly the defence hasn’t learnt the lessons from the Blackpool game.
Back in that game,we conceded both our goals from set pieces and yesterday against Wolves the situation was no different.
Spike - February 6, 2011
No quality in the Market?..I saw fookin quality even in the Wolves side compared to our midfield!
I fear for the worst case side scenario now…….Doomed and Potless
brianofnazareth - February 6, 2011
Hairy ass smeller.
Surely there is no hiding place for Cuntrick and Evans…
han - February 6, 2011

the toilets at OT
danniitronix - February 6, 2011
fuck it, feel shti today but what we gonna do bitch and moan about it.
taggart has got us in the mess, the piss head can get us out of this.
some players need to start showing some bollocks – rooney and fletcher. evans and gibson should be sacked. however crap anderson is – at least he can run.
massiveling, vida and VDS have a huge game against shitty and so do Roo and Berbs.
lets look forward, ain’t fuck all we can do now – even so I hope evans and carrick got the shit kicked out of them last night – cunts.
brianofnazareth - February 6, 2011
Fuck off happy chappy!!
Watched the goals again today an I want to smash Carrick for the first… he LOOKS at the guy then is to fucking much of a pussy to put his body there!! fucking cunt of a man…if you can call him a man!
Second well let’s just blame Evans cause he’s a cunt
sheesh - February 6, 2011
If there is a silver lining to Fergie retiring, I would like to think that we will bring in a manager who isn’t afraid to make bold decisions and who won’t need to rely on a strong assistant to point out the blindingly obvious…and hopefully the new manager will flush out the shit in our side as a priority.
Danni’s right in that all we can do is look forward – but I personally think we’ve already thrown away the title. I hope I’m wrong.
I have so little faith in this squad of players that, push come to shove, I’d rather forego Champions League and FA Cup if it meant that we could concentrate our minds on winning #19 and not fucking it up. We have played that shit this season. You couldn’t count the number of decent performances we’ve had in double figures.
Alfonso Bedoya - February 6, 2011
No, no, no…
God forbid that Ferguson leaves before the Glazers, Sheesh… I refuse to believe that Ferguson, and his ridiculous assertion that “there’s no value in the market” are the reasons for our weak midfield… the Glazers hold the purse strings… Ferguson has NEVER shied away from splashing the cash before, and he’s never been so stubborn in his defense of our failings either.
Fuck knows why Ferguson defends the Glazers and our new financial model, the way he does… but he does… still… I’d rather Ferguson was the buffer between United and the fans, than a lackey specifically appointed by the Glazers.
sukhy5 - February 6, 2011
Fucking cunt.
The last time I wanted to smash Carrick’s face in was Bayern at home.
I wanna do it again.
How dare he wear No.16.
Fucking cunt.
danniitronix - February 6, 2011
i just don’t see the point of ruining my whole fucking weekend and week cos of this shit.
we had a great run, rode out luck – and now these cunts know what it is like to loose.
did you see how giggs was being a cunt at the end, smashing the fuck out the wolves lads. the old grandad showed bollocks, that’s what I’m talking about.
carrick and evans are dead in my eyes.
danniitronix - February 6, 2011
come on Sheesh, we have not thrown it away – some positives in that Valancia, Park and Rio are coming back.
arsenal bricked it yesterday and who knows maybe the chumps will today.
even so, we will all drop points and – for once – I actually agreed with cunto Shearer, Wolves did play a blinder – as if it was a cup final for them; its not an excuse but fuck it.
am not giving up until its mathematically gone. we have won it on last day of season, and we have also lost it too. just too many unknowns. stay positive – i know its hard ….
Robbo - February 6, 2011
THeyve been wrecked by the Scousers
uncleknobheadforfucksake - February 6, 2011
I’m gutted about evans he’s fucking shite aint he,
Calvino - February 6, 2011
I have been too gutted by this result that I have not watched motd. Stupid lads ruined what am sure was a cracking weekend for the neutrals.
Anyway, many of you are crying out for a creative midfielder. I think we need two proper ball winners and I will say it again: Lass at Madrid and Cattermole will fit the bill nicely. We do not have anyone in this team that strikes fear into the opposition midfielders when it comes to 50-50 balls and therefore we seem to be outmanouvered there. I am very very disappointed in our manager here cause this is a man who has had Keane and Ince, Keane and Butt and knows how much we were able to win at tough away grounds with these combos. So why not go look for these types of players? Barca have Busquets and Kaita for goodness sakes. It is impossible to try to win the league without ball winners and that is why we seem to be suffering in that area.
Someone to win it regularly and give it to Rooney, Nani, Berbatov and valencia so they can go do the work.
If we do not win on saturday we might as well forget it. City will come with at least TWO ball winners and so have their backline well protected.
Alfonso Bedoya - February 6, 2011
No, no, no…
That’s the sort of tactic you use if you’re a poor team up against a good team… two ball winners and no creative spark… all muscle and bluster… no finesse.
Diarra isn’t good enough and Cattermole is just a thug… if that’s what you want, you’d be better off with Barton… he can actually play a bit.
Cal… if you’re a midtable team, you accept these tactics, because this is the standard of talent at your disposal, and you’ve got to make the best of your limitations… top teams, (United are suppoed to be a top team), can attract and afford the likes of Keane, Robson, Essien, Mascherano, Gerrard, etc… players that can scrap, AND play football… these players are rare, and worth their weight in gold, but we’re supposed to be such a GREAT club, with GREAT ambitions, and it never should have happened that we weren’t ready to replace Keane, like for like… our midfield hasn’t been right since.
“Badges, to god-damned hell with badges! We have no badges. In fact, we don’t need badges. I don’t have to show you any stinking badges, you god-damned cabrón and ching’ tu madre! Come out from that shit-hole of yours. I have to speak to you.”
danniitronix - February 6, 2011
with all due respect that has fuck all to do with why Wolves were allowed to play the way they were; Carrick, Gibson and Anderson are wank, Rio was injured, Hargo is fucked and VDS is about to retire.
it’s the same old excuse with you and Ed isn’t it – blame finances – but are you gonna blam ethe Glazers for Nani being fucking awesome this season, Vida being regarded as the best central defender in the world at this time or are we to blame the Glazers for keeping on Rooney on 250k yet he has mut in one match winning performance.
Guess we are going to blame the Glazers for Evans too.
fucking hell Alf, I’m all for making global and strategic observations and agree with you on a lot of them but things like picking Evans before Smalling are Taggart and Phelan fuck-ups, not anything to do with the PIK or Glazers.

Why are the Glazers blameless?
Unless you believe that Ferguson has just become a different manager since they took over… he was never shy about spending the readies if there was a weak spot in the squad before.
My point about yeasterdays game, was that Evans and Carrick were useless… completely useless… even against the worst team in the league, you’ll struggle with only 9 players… and I’m asking the question… Why has Ferguson not fixed a midfield that everyone knows is not good enough?
I’m thinking that Ferguson talked the Glazers into splashing large when he bought Nani and Anderson… and now he’s having to get his moneys worth from Anderson.
“Badges, to god-damned hell with badges! We have no badges. In fact, we don’t need badges. I don’t have to show you any stinking badges, you god-damned cabrón and ching’ tu madre! Come out from that shit-hole of yours. I have to speak to you.”

Alf, I agree that we’re clearly not spending as much as we used to because of the Glazers but let’s be honest about one thing. When Fergie has had money, he’s pissed it away.
Carrick was a signing post-Glazer takeover as was that £17 million piece of shit Hargreaves. Obertan cost £3 million and Diouf cost £2 million. Do they have what it takes to stake a long-term future at United? These small amounts add up. Alan Smith cost us £7 million and we sold him at a loss of a million pounds. We signed Tosic for £5 million and never played him, then got rid of him after a couple of seasons. I defended Bebe’s signing at the time we purchased him but he’s not what you’d call a priority signing, irrespective of whether we think he will come good or not.
I agree with Danni about placing blame here. Having a formidable home record but showing relegation form away from Old Trafford has everything to do with Fergie and Phelan. I see Phelan and Fergie in the same way as Phil Neal was regarded as an assistant to Graham Taylor. He’s just another yes man. We need an assistant to show Fergie how things really are, as it appears that Fergie cannot spot the blindingly obvious.

whats queiroz up to these days?
he knew how to line the team up
phelan is a nice chap but saf needs someone who calls a cunt a cunt – and isn’t afraid to speak his mind
also he is much better looking than phelan so obviously his post match interviews will be worth watching
han - February 6, 2011
what was saf thinking when he signed bebe?
1 for the future? in the same vein as doofus, pique, rossi and all the other promising guys we let go of cheaply?
han - February 6, 2011
evans is young and low on confidence so understandably he kacks his pants every game
carrick is a seasoned pro – has no excuse for his cuntish showings this season
sheesh - February 6, 2011
Han, Carrick has always been a cunt. I never understood why we signed him right from the outset. We needed one of a bollocksy midfielder who can grab opposition midfields by the bollocks and another midfielder with the nous to unlock defences and score goals.
Carrick does neither.
han - February 6, 2011
sheesh
carrick can and has done what is required but what is annoying me is that he is woefully crap on most occasions when he needs to step up his game
instead he behaves as if he is invisible – i put it down somewhat to that penalty miss at burnley last season as the starting point for his decline in performances
uncleknobheadforfucksake - February 6, 2011
we had senna in the bag for 6m then called it off and got carrick for 18m,
ginsoak tosser

Good shout Noblets. Senna was allegedly the done deal, then for some strange reason we ended up with carthorse Carrick, who was’nt even on our shopping list at the time.
I heard a rumour a month or so ago about Carrick taking his shin pads out of his boots and slumped himself on his bench with his head in his hands expecting to be subbed. Fergie fucked him and told him to get out there and stop feeling sorry for himself. In the 2nd half he was fuckin worse.
Senna’s been the rock of Villareal’s midfield for donkeys years, good solid pro.
Don’t kiss your granny when she’s shaving!

Alfie,
this is where I just get properly tired of sparring with you. In football these days there are few Robson/Keane/Gerrard/Essien/Butt/Vieira types of midfielders around. Mascherano is an absolutely NOTHING player and frankly I will not even want in our team. Barca apart, very few teams play these days without proper ball winners and that is what we lack badly.
As Knobby said Senna would have done it for us as he did for Spain at Euro’08. You say Lass is not good enough for us?? How on earth can you even say that? Wenger and Mounrinho have both bought this youngman and he plays for Real now. Yet he is not good enough for a team that has the spineless Carrick? You are joking right? Cattermole is a thug? Well, he will do for us currently. We have NO backbone fellas!! That is the biggest problem we seem to have. No one to win balls. Chelsea have Essien and Ramirez who you can guarantee will run around and crunch into tackles. City have many. We have NONE!!! And yet someone is saying that it is only lower teams that set out like that. I disagree strongly.
I have always maintained that Phelan is no use to us and time and time again it shows.

“Alfie,

Same to you Cal, cause it seems you can’t fuckin read.
I agree with you that every team needs a ball winner… but my point is, a team of Uniteds status deserves more than just any old midfield dogsbody… we’ve already got one of those in Fletcher… but other than running about harassing opposing players, he does little else. Talking about Diarra…(“Wenger and Mounrinho have both bought this young man and he plays for Real now”)… that’s great Cal… not good enough for Wenger, and only a squaddie for Mourinho… but you want him.
I mentioned Keane, Robson, Gerrard, Essien… because these are the standard of player that United SHOULD have… aggressive, hard fighting midfielders that can actually play, and play well… I even agree with you that, yeah, they are rare… but that only emphasizes how valuable they are, and why you can spare no expense when you need one.
Cattermole… you’re havin a laugh… a team like United shouldn’t be settling for “the” Cattermoles of the game… we should be scouring the fuckin planet, with our supposedly world class scouting network for the new Robson/Keane/Essien… and then breaking the bank to sign him… not whinging about no fuckin value…

What ever happened to Bebe? 7 million of wasted money. You see Liverpool made a couple of January signings and now they are close to the top four. I do not believe one word Fergie is saying about not finding quality players to buy in January. There is got to be a money problem at United and Fergie needs to come clean and admit it.
bman - February 7, 2011
I agree fully. But who would you target, money permitting, to transform our midfield? Schweinsteiger would have fit the bill, but I think he just renewed his contract, so he’s off the market.
