Rant Cast 169 – back in the race

Rant Cast

On this week’s show Ed & Paul look back on Manchester United’s hard-fought victory over Arsenal at Old Trafford. David Moyes secured the biggest win of his short spell in Manchester, but did it come at the expense of good football? We look back on all the major talking points coming out of the game that reinvigorated United’s title campaign.

Also on this week’s show: a special interview with Guardian journalist Daniel Harris, looking at his new book The Promised Land: Manchester United’s Historic Treble, which reviews the 1999 season.

We take your questions, look ahead to international week, and refuse to open the transfer window can of worms. Sort of.

Finally, we talk Michael Carrick and Rene Meulenstein. Injury and a new contract for the United midfielder; a new job for the Dutch coach.

  1. other podcasts go to ground on international week but there is no end to the depth + scope of the content the rant brings weekly

  2. Thomas Routledge says:

Not sure how you worked out Vidic was the worst defender, I thought he was a rock 1st half, although the defense defended well as a whole!

  3. I don’t know how you can state so emphatically that “we’ve seen the best of Rooney” and then go on to give stats on how well he is playing – eg most amount of assists in the EPL etc. Rooney has just turned 28 and should just be reaching his peak years. A lot does depend on how Moyes sets up the team and ensures that he gets the best out of Rooney. I see no reason why a settled and fully motivated Rooney used to optimal effect in a successful team cannot improve quite a bit going forward.

  4. just listened to it, excellent edition
