He was a greedy twat, going public about his contract negotiations. The club treated him like a king. He was the highest paid player at the club, club captain, given leeway for being a dickhead because he was such a good player and he still acted like an idiot.captainhormone wrote:Tbf keane has a right to be bitter. .I mean how would you feel being made the scapegoat for season ticket hikes back in 2000..keane was and it was all downhill from there Tbf
Roy Keane
Thanks Sheesh. Was wondering if anyone was going to bring that up. That autumn Keane and Michael Kennedy played us like the piano and got him a major deal. The man is a beast and awful awful man. My favourite United footballer of all time but I have not time for him now.sheesh wrote:He was a greedy twat, going public about his contract negotiations. The club treated him like a king. The club paid up his contract, gave him a testimonial and then he broke the agreement of never talking about what led to his departure. And he is talking about loyalty. He is a lunatic.

All the criticism of Keane is typical griping that would apply to most players... he was a self centred, greedy, ego maniac... often the biggest players, are the biggest arseholes... it definitely applies to managers... Ferguson was/is the biggest arsehole of the lot.
The thing with Keane, a lot of what he said was right... a bit over the top maybe... a bit tactless, but that was Keane to the core... in your face, no holding back, fuckin hard case... that's what made him great.

He shouldn't have been airing it out in public like that, but he was spot on with most of it... sometimes he needed to be held back from going too far, but that was Fergusons job, and in this case, that's what he did... he stopped it from going public... but he should then have turned him loose on the team, to sort the cunts out, because that's the captains job.
I've been bitching about what a cunt Ferguson is, and it's funny that the same people who are defending Ferguson, are the same ones who are slaughtering Keane... and there's not much difference between the 2... they were/are both arseholes... having said that, of the 2, Keane for me seems to be more consistent with his principals.

"Badges, to god-damned hell with badges! We have no badges. In fact, we don't need badges. I don't have to show you any stinking badges, you god-damned cabrón and ching' tu madre! Come out from that shit-hole of yours. I have to speak to you."
Love the idea od Ruud and Keane going eye to eye! Wonder how that would've turned out?
Think Keane was spot on with most of what he said, but as we all know he wasn't the player he had been, which made it easier for Fergie to get rid.
Fergie and keane are probably pretty similar in lots of ways and a nice handshake at the end of keanes time at OT was never going to happen was it?
Keane would get in my all time uinted top 11 though, and that's how I shall remember him

From what I've read in the past, the other players thought Keane was a toxic influence in his final season. He started slagging off Fergie about rock of gibraltar and the players wanted nothing to do with it. They just walked off from the spat. That wasn't just Fergie's account in his book. I remember reading the exact same thing shortly after Keane left.
Being a twat was what made him a great captain when he also had the legs to back up his words - but it was also his undoing in the end.

Looks like Roy Keane could be Martin O´Neills assistant for the Republic:

I never saw Parker play more than a couple of games, but I agree with the rest of his selections completely.
