"His system relies on two dynamic full-backs, a ball-playing centre-back, a pivot that can protect the back-four whilst playing forward passes to start attacks, wingers who press and run in-behind and an all-around forward who presses. Lukaku doesn’t fit that, and that’s why he’s leaving.”

Biggest thing missing here is the pivot and yet we're not after any. Unless that's the plan for Fred? He played there a few times toward the end of the season.
The pivot is Matic/Periera I guess.

Yeah I agree. We're missing several keys players, but a Carrick-type is the obvious gap at the heart of the system. Matic is ok, he's just too slow in terms of movement and also passing. Takes a lot of touches before getting the ball forward. I think it's why Ole wants Longstaff so badly. These types of players are actually quite rare at the moment -- City just paid 70-80M for Rodri.
Don't think Longstaff is even a DM, but how are any of these players going to cope next to Pogba in a 2? Pogba does a lot of great things, but in terms of overall winning/losing the ball he's one of the worst in the league. If we're not signing someone like Kante it's going to be a mess. Really, this 4231 doesn't make a lot of sense unless Pogba leaves this summer.

It's worth remembering that Pogba shone in a WC-winning side playing a 4-2-3-1. It was sort of a mourinho-style 4-2-3-1 though, sitting deep, seems like Ole wants a more aggressive style of play.

Pogba will shine in a team where it's not all on him to do everything. A lot of the mistakes he makes in possession happen because he's our only difference maker and the ball gravitates towards him even when he's not in a good position to do something with it. Our club's in a terrible state right now. We're driving out our best player by blaming him for not being able to magic up something every time the ball comes near him.

He's good enough to play lots of roles, but that position and style is a waste of his best talents. But looking at our squad, we have 5 senior CMs, including McT and Pereira. Without more signings, a 2 man mid is more or less our only option.

He played well there for France, but Ole seems to want to play a more aggressive, pressing style than France play, which is really Mourinho-esque. So even if he's in the "2", Pogba would still, in theory, be further forward and more in a position to do damage than he was under Jose. Of course France also have Kante running about tackling everything that moves that makes it easier for players like Pogba to be more aggressive. Anyway, Pogba could also still leave this summer. I think Real have about a month after the PL window closes (in a week's time) to sign him. Imagine a season with a midfield three of McT, Fred, and Pereira.

He's not at risk of being sacked because he lost the friendly, it's more to do with the attrition with Perez. Perez, like Woodward, prefers to bring in players that he wants rather than what the Manager want. Zidane is standing his ground and so something will have to give and Perez is a bigger cunt than Woodward or the Glazers, so Zidane will either back down or leave. Funny as fuck though, if Perez makes Zidane play Bale.
