A DOF is a redundant and pointless role. And people who have exclusive DOF roles have worse skillsets than a manager or a coach.
And DOFs don't decide tactics - that's the manager's job. If a DOF decides tactics then we're in trouble becuase DOF's are shit who couldn't make it themselves in a proper job.
We know the club (and perhaps most half decent clubs) buy players as a collective decision by the footbal men at the club. Of course the financial guys are also involved with the cost and ROI aspects but the football folks must sign off on a player.
A DOF is (at best) another football chap who can weigh in with his knowledge on players but how does that make him different from other qualified football folks at the club? If anything the DOF will wield his power which will make things worse if the other staff don't agree with his choices.

So you’re generally happy with how it’s all panning out then dozer?

Yes. We need signings but our recruitment seems to have improved. The football is entertaining and we're scoring and defending well. We've bought mature players. Yes James is crap but at least he's not mental. We've bought mentally positive players with skill.

...so, given the performance against Chelsea, are you still happy with how this is all panning out dozer?

I'm not cherry picking a game.
We've improved this season compared to Jose and Gaal.
I'm saying this again, he's bought 4 players, 3 of which can play for any top side (unlike Martial and Rashford fyi) and one crap signing.
That's a huge improvement over other managers who've bought so terribly that ALL their signings were either crap (Di Maria, Sanchez, Mkhi, Bailley) or mediocre (like Shaw, Herrera, Mata, Pogba). Their performances wouldn't get them a place in a top team competing for titles.
The football is more interesting and we're creating a lot more chances. The players he bought seem to have the right attitude and want to play for the club rather than be insta models.
All of this is a huge improvement. The focus of events now in the media and fans is what's happening on the pitch rather than what the likes of Pogba's agent tweeted, Lingards insta antics, Sanchez's wages and Di Maria's unhappiness.
And I'm basing this over the whole season here; I'm not cherry picking the covid part of the season.
Fuck the Glazers

This team is completely unrecognisable from Jose's long ball dossers. The 11 is not far off.

But there's still a lot of shite that needs to go. Remember Sanchez? Smalling? Also Pereira, Lingard, Jones, Rojo, Lindelhoof, Bailley...

Might be hard to offload these cunts in the post-covid environment given a lot of clubs are struggling / fucked financially

Yeah, we're really lacking in depth of quality. Some of the young lads coming through seem genuinely highly rated. Mengi, Mejbril, Levitt, Laird. If one or two turn out to be genuine quality and a couple more work properly as squaddies, then we should be able to add the 3-4 quality players we need over the next 12-18 months. If we do nothing else this summer, we have to sign Sancho and a quality Centre Back. And that won't come cheap. Probably 150m or thereabouts. If we can recoup 50m by shifting a few, its not unthinkable. By all accounts he's loving life over there, but I'd rather Smalling than Rojo, Bailly or Lindelöf. We need much better than any of those though.

Conversations about salaries aren’t finished. We’ve still got Sanchez, and de Gea is looking like a new Sanchez situation. But yeah, it’s a big improvement over the previous managers. Partly that’s credit to Ole, partly a reflection of how awful the other post-Ferguson managers were. It’s still hard to believe how much the Glazers and Woodward fucked the club up, with shit managers and crazy money spent on shit players.

In the Roma v Inter match on Sunday, Lukaku, Sanchez, Smalling, Young, and Mkhitaryan played.

Ronaldo has 30 league goals for Juve, with four games left. They probably have the title sewn up. He’s 35. Monster.

Damn. He's outscored Messi even while playing in Italy. That's incredible
