I'm sure LVG agrees with most people that United needed 5-6 top quality players in the summer. He won't work with the current shit we have and will bring in reinforcements. But I still am skeptical that well get that a player like Vidal or Hummels.

I can actually see LVG keeping some of Moyes misfits. Someone like Nani, whose decision making is poor, would benefit from being coached patterns of play within a set system. Fellaini has to go though, he has no place in a civilised footballing system. Anderson has to go on the bias of his fitness record. Cleverley will probably stay as a cover midfielder.

In terms of incoming players, we definitely need another central midfielder, plus 2 central defenders to replace Vidic and Ferdinand. Vermaelan plus Martinis Indi and maybe Blind as a utility man if we can't get a proper central midfielder. Those three won't cost that much relative to today's market. Getting Vidal would be utopia but its unlikely all things considered. Putting any hopes in it really could be dangerous.

Getting Vidal is unlikely because of how we fucking operate. It shouldn't be though - he's available, he's what we need, we have the cash and by all accounts he's up for it.

If we're going to have 5 CBs again, the 5th should be Keane or Thorpe. Otherwise, Smalling and Jones will never get a chance, especially in a season without Europe. At least in Keane/Thorpe, we have a viable 4th choice CB. With Carrick out we have 1 fit CM. If van Gaal wants to play three in the middle and 2 players per position, our need there is much greater.

Depends on the system he uses. 4-3-3 or 3-5-2. In both we need another CB and CM. In the 3-5-2 Valencia could be used as a right wing back, and Jones more as a centre back. In a 4-3-3 Jones could get rotation in right back, with Valencia on the right wing. I think an experienced centre back like Vermaelen is a must. Strootman would be ideal as the central midfielder, and is more gettable than Vidal, but he is injured at present. Bad time for Carrick to go down.

Other than it being bad for their development, Jones and Smalling are just bad RBs. They offer nothing going forward. They'll make mistakes and maybe cost us a couple of games, but if we don't play them in their position, they'll never be good players. Smalling will be 25 in November. We've had Jones for 3 seasons and he hasn't really developed. If we buy another CB, they'll be 3rd and 4th choice in a season where we play fewer games and have less injuries.

Feel a bit sorry for Wilson, but Keane was a machine before he got injured so it'll be good to see him, can probably let Hernandez go/use in a swap deal now
Well I suppose that's the knighthood fucked.

So we shouldn't buy Hummels?

If you can get one of the best, sure, but it's not going to happen. We'll end up with de Vrij or Vermaelen - more mediocre players we shouldn't be spending money on when we're producing them from the academy.
