Postby lkhmffsstopmovingabout » Thu Jul 17, 2014 6:38 pm

the consensus on here seems to be that despite being spains 23rd best midfielder hes a passing tackling attacking holding mid whos also box to box and plays like alonso but also clev

hes now our only midfielder of note for three months tbf

has anyone seen him play though, apart from when bilbao thrashed us led by other much better players

is he even any better than carrick

Is he good at keeping/winning possession at midfield - that'll do. Herrera, Fellaini, Vidal if possible. Nice.

As long as we have at least 2 players who are good at retaining possession in tight situations in midfield we're good. That'll help our attackers - we have some top players up front.
Our midfield will need to make up for the lack of pace our forwards have as well. I can see why United weren't in for Kroos.

I haven't seen much of him but when we were linked to him last year, a bit of research told me he was a good player, nothing special...

Then this year, when we went after him again, I looked into it some more and found a Bilbao forum page, (which I posted here somewhere), where his own fans were gobsmacked at the money were paying... the general consensus is, he's a good, honest, solid, dependable player...
"Badges, to god-damned hell with badges! We have no badges. In fact, we don't need badges. I don't have to show you any stinking badges, you god-damned cabrón and ching' tu madre! Come out from that shit-hole of yours. I have to speak to you."

I don't have a problem with the money we paid for him. Nearly £30m for a player of his age (he will be 25 next month) who probably still has to reach his peak nowadays is no big deal. As long as he's reliable over a good number of seasons, we can't really complain.

He may not be the world-class superstar everyone is craving, myself included, but I trust Van Gaal's judgment as to whether or not this player is good enough. He will see something in the player that maybe Bilbao fans don't.

It may sadly be the case that, for the time being at least, we just don't have the lure to get the truly top-class stars like Kroos (Vidal is probably an exception).
