This video is great:https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comment ... tball_dor/

Really puts Chelsea and City in context. We actually did spend much until recent years, and unfortunately that coincided with the post-Ferguson Woodward era, so most of that spending was wasted.

We need to spend smarter, starting right now.

Mad that, we're mostly at the bottom of the spending or not in it at all, until like you say the post Woodward era when we started pissing away a ton of money. And it hasn't worked. So we should go back to coaching more, with a bit of spending on the side like we used to.

Fergie was special. We can't build a model for the future around what he did. And he couldn't have succeeded while spending so little without such so many incredible players coming out of the academy.

I'm not advocating a Fergie style set up, just a simple mix of signings and coaching rather than throwing money at it and expecting it to work. In this era of gross riches we've gone full on modern football and tried to buy the finished thing rather than trying to improve individuals. It's symptomatic of money men like Avram and Woodward taking control of the football side of things. But we need a balance, to rate coaching again.

I don't think we have a choice now anyway because the Glazers are reigning it in after giving Jose nearly half a bil and the highest wage bill in sport and getting absolutely fuck all in return. An academy kid like Lingard gives you a lot more on 130k a week than Sanchez and his near 500k when you add on his image rights, signing on fee etc.

apparently OGS has sanctioned a move for Maguire at £65m. So that he can build his defence around him. Maguire is a bit 'meh' but better than what we've currently got.

65m for Maguire?

Fuck me. Surely there are better centre backs out there, for less. Or even for the same.

Where the fuck are our scouts?

I'd think take McGuire, if he's really available. Better to take him than hold out for others who might turn out not actually to be available in the end.
