You're right Sid. You have to ask why the are getting this privileged treatment. I suppose that answers my own question.

The level of violence has been pretty horrific. They've targeted lots of old people as well as old people generally vote more than any other demographic

They say if you want change vote for it. But not if it involves breaking free from the state. If that's the case they'll declare your vote illegal and use ultra violence to stop you.

The funny thing is a lot of people expected most catalonians to vote to remain as part of spain. But possibly not now, not after the spanish state has shown their true colours, shooting them, beating them, all for wanting to vote ffs. This is the kind of shite Franco used to pull during the fascist days. So much for liberal democracy.

460 people injured so far https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/ ... g-stations

It's been a brutal act of repression

There's a video going viral on twitter of government officials marching into a polling station, stealing the voting boxes, emptying some out onto the floor and assaulting people who're voting

They've also turned off the internet. The people livestreaming the violence and uploading videos are doing so on mobile data.

Barcelona FC backed the peoples right to vote... that puts them at odds with the Government... that will no doubt be remembered...

Aye it could be interesting in the future that. I wouldn't be surprised if the spanish state suddenly wanted to investigate the clubs dodgy finances.

I saw Pique voted n all. He's an outspoken pro catalonian.

Btw 780+ injured now

In reality this could open a whole can of worms for the EU. And I can find no reaction from French Catalonia.Go to Perpignan or anywhere in Pyrénées-Orientales and the orange/yellow Catalonia flag is more prominent than the 'Tricolore.'

Isn't it significant that the Spanish government find it justifiable to use state violence in the same place that weeks before they were condemning terrorist violence?
