Lacazette “I miss Ligue 1’s atmosphere. In England, the fans are more spectators than supporters.
“There’s a better atmosphere in French stadiums.”
I was listening to that podcast On the Continent and one journo said a lot of players have said to him over the last 5 years that the atmosphere isn't anything like what they expected. They're sold the Prem on the grounds that the passion and atmoshere of the fans is unrivaled. But the reality is the atmosphere is basically non existent. We're silent observers, can't stand, can't jump, can't sing, can't have unofficial merch, banners, smoke bombs - can't do anything passionate. Away fans are given a bit more leeway by the state but under phenomenal police suppression, as in vast police motorcades with armed police, horses, helicopters and 2/3 coppers for every fan, which not even fucking murderers get on their way to jail, or fucking terrorists.
The state have killed top flight football post hoolie days, using Hillsborough as their excuse. The americanisation is complete. Most clubs are franchises now, not community based clubs. All the world class managers and players can't compensate for the fact the game has been all but killed. It's like going to see Metallica but having to sit in silence throughout a banging 2 hour set when all you want to do is mosh or at least tap your foot.
Anyway that's my once yearly rant about the Prem being an absolute fucking complete embarrassment dogshit bag of shit and why I don't give anything to do with it any money
Can't really argue with any of that - it's completely commercialised now, and the only stadium craic to be had is with the newly promoted teams and their fans who give it loads - at least for the first half of the season anyway.
If they're lucky enough to stay in the Prem another season, it's inevitable they get sucked in to the mire like all the others.
"that is probably the worst post ive ever read" - Knobby, 28th April 2015
The whole game has been sanitised, from the combatitive nature of the contest to the part the 'fans' play before, during and after a game. Of course nobody wants to go back to the stadiums and hooligan free for alls of pre Hillsborough. But something precious and special has been lost to the game (I posted an article on the 'gentrification' of the game a few weeks ago). It's as if all elements of excitement, confrontation and the very heart of the game, it's working class roots and history, are slowly being erased. It's as many writers have predicted-we're all headed for a bland, boring and uniform future. Football is leading the way-you have been warned!!
City winning as usual. But I still don't like their tiki taka football.
I enjoyed the football Chelsea play under Sarri and even France in the world cup. Very different styles but it's not predictable like the tiki taka. The tiki taka is very effective but not as much fun as other kinds of football

City scored 23 and conceded 3 with de Bruyne out. They'll walk the title again
Aye, frightening. Liverpool too, they're set to go joint top with City and Salah isn't even playing well yet. When he finds form they'll start smashing teams again.
Incidentally Talkshite just said since signing Van Dyjk Liverpool have conceded 12 goals in the 26 games he's been available for.
