In previous games under Ole we've scored on the counter and had a comfortable second half. If we attack a bit more and gain some confidence (Ole's only been there 3/4 weeks) then we could see out a game like that more comfortably.

There was a spell of about 15 mins in the second half where I posted ‘next goal wins it’. With a bit more composure and maybe fitness, on the break we could have had a second and then the game settles and we probably go on to control it.

It comes with time. That bit of authority and belief to manage games against good teams. It’ll take time and a few new players.

Digging deep after about 60 mins but that makes a change from setting out to dig deep from minute 1.
Innit. We're not far off winning a game like that more comfortably. And it's mad really because we're talking about controlling a game away from home against the second / third best team in the league.

The first half performance answers a lot of questions about how good this team is n all. Reveals the extent to which Mourinho lied and deflected his failings.

Souness thinks Pogba should have been sent off. His hate for the player knows no bounds.
I always stop reading after the word 'Souness' unless I see 'is a cunt' afterwards
I agree with most of what Souness says about Pogba tbh. But I don’t think that was a red
Sounness was talking shit about Pog after the game this time tbf

Pog said to Redknapp he's a bit shit as a defensive mid and should play as an attacking mid, then they cut back to the studio and Sounness goes on a rant saying Pog sees himself as defensive mid, but that he isn't good enough to play that role, and should play as an attacking mid

Did he not hear the interview? He literally agrees with Pog?

I think the cunt has backed himself into a corner after 2 years of slagging Pog and is now struggling for a way out
Ah I didn’t hear that interview but I’d be surprised if Pogba ever thought of himself as a defensive midfielder. He’s not that type at all

I don't really have that much of a problem with us going out with intent, getting the all important goal and then defending the lead. I didn't really see us going into a low block at the first sign of danger albeit that towards the end we were letting them have it if they won it in their own half. In the end this was away from home against a good team that's been mullering teams before us (wolves shocked 'em but that's about it).

under Mourinho it was just going out with intent to defend so I don't think it's remotely fair to draw a comparison unless it's to show how different the approach and gameplay was. when was the last time any of us saw our forwards actually creating massive problems for a supposedly top level defence?

I can see why Ole wouldn't be happy with the second half performance. It wasn't amazing but this depends entirely upon what you're measuring against. we were playing much worse than that from 20 minutes on in just about any Mourinho game I can remember... although i'm struggling to remember any of them they were so fucking unmemorable.

Reverting to a low block at the first hint of pressure will likely be a subliminal thing that carries over from Mourinho. The cunt only mentioned it 6 times in every interview. Coaching that out of them, and coaching them to be instinctively bolder against the better teams, will take time.

I’d still replace the whole back four tbf, eleven saves in one half ffs

There's no disputing that we were under the cosh in the second half, fighting for our lives, De Gea MoM once again. But still the change from Mourinho was clear. The ambition in the first half. In attack, players looking for the ball, confident on the ball, terrific passing in the opposition's half while being pressed by one of the best pressing teams.

I agree that fundamentally we probably need some defensive signings to really avoid that dynamic when playing against a top side at their home stadium.

nobody's saying the back four or our defending as a whole has suddenly become amazing just because we've won 6 on the trot.

for what it's worth, I though lindelof was pretty immense in this game and is getting better and better in a way that jones has singularly failed to do in over ten years. shaw's been getting better as well but two good defenders in a back four doesn't make a good defence. even so, I think a more forward thinking mentality is helping them all because they're not having to handle a 90 minute onslaught from shite teams anymore.

Herrera shines when we're playing fast football. He's a good player.
