Not bad considering that's the first time he's been in that situation in a massive game, and this int his squad. It shows that maybe he has what it takes for the big games. We faced their full strength attack as well.
Yeah. But the bigger factor was the system of having Martial and Rashford playing wider, with a midfield diamond. Totally caught spurs out
Yeah tbf, it shut Eriksen down and stopped him playing, that's why they created so little first half.
This at least shows there's some tactical idea going into the games and it's not just an intention to stop the opposition playing as per Mourinho. Ole and Phelan have had virtually fuck all time to do more than steady a sinking ship and they've come out of it better than anyone expected. A few days in Dubai has given them the chance to really look at tactics against a top side and they've done pretty well considering this was a team universally written off just a month ago.

First half was how you’d expect us to set up away to a good side. Playing on the break, but with purpose and control. With a constant threat. Mourinho’s idea of that sort of game was 9 behind the ball, Rashford and Martial at full back and smashing it long for Heskey to keep losing it

Aye it would have been suicide under Jose. Waiting for the inevitable. Like Fub says he'd have tried to stop them playing and sacrificed all our attacking quality to do so. And we'd have failed and Spurs would have hammered us again.

Looking at Ole's tenure so far and it smacks of the old dreamteam of Fergie & Phelan: smashing shite teams then getting the balance right between defence and attack for the big teams, attacking a lot in the first half and keeping it tight in the second to see it out.

Yep, that's exactly how i was thinking about it. There's setting up to play away at a top side, and there's parking the bus. You don't have to do the latter.

Second half we got lucky, but the first half is really something to build on, especially with the uncertainty about fitness levels and everything else. Can't believe it really, could Ole have done any better than he has?

3) Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s run of five consecutive Premier League wins has already beaten David Moyes’ best run as Manchester United manager (four successive PL wins). Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho both managed six successive PL wins on one occasion.

Already better than Moyes, almost better than Gaal and Mourinho

Under José Mourinho, Manchester United conceded 9.87% of shots in their own 6-yard box – the 2nd worst rate in the Premier League.

Under Ole Gunnar Solskjær, that figure has been reduced to 2.57% – the best rate in the Premier League.

Ole did a similar thing to Tottenham in exploiting the space in behind their fullbacks and playing on the counter. Difference with Arsenal is we got a 2 goal cushion and massively reduced the number of chances they created so it was a lot more comfortable.

But you wonder how long we can employ this tactic away from home and be successful. Presumably other teams will stop their fullbacks going forward so there'll be less space in behind for Rash, Rom and Martial to exploit. But the benefit of this is it will reduce the opposition's attack a lot as there'll be less support for their wide men, less overlapping runs and crosses into the box

Also you'd think we have enough in attack to unpick defences if they sit in more. And with Rashford and Pog who can create goals out of nothing.

Interesting times. Nice to have these top level tactical battles again rather than just sticking 11 men in a 10 yard wall on the edge of the area and hoofing it.
