Against Chelsea, we seemed to try pressing high in the first half, in a similar style to Klopp. We didn't have great success -- Pogba and McT seemed very distant from the front four. Pereira and Lingard seemed to barely exist. I don't think the high press works well unless the whole team is working in a tightly coordinated way.
Second half, with the benefit of a slim lead to protect, we went much deeper, and basically pressed only when Chelsea entered our half. It was fairly similar to Jose's tactics, but I think we kept a bit of a higher line and pressed higher than we did under Jose. I don't know if that's a deliberate tactical shift compared to Jose, or if we just have a stronger back four now that can resist high balls and doesn't get pushed back as far as often happened under Jose.
Obviously we still haven't developed much of a game when we can't rely on counter-attacking. Ole seems to want to have the option of going Klopp's way, which presses high. Klopp's team isn't all that creative either, he has this theory that the "best number 10" is a guy who recovers the ball from the other team in a dangerous area: in other words, someone who consistently nicks the ball in a dangerous area is practically more useful than a tricky number 10 who can "pick the lock". Seemed to be what Ole is trying to do with Lingard and Pereira.

Joses counterattack isn't good enough anymore. It won the league in 2014/15 which is almost the previous decade. Ole's counters are better because they're more modern (high press etc). And we're probably going to have to use it a lot this season because we didn't buy a midfielder. Until we get a Veratti type that's comfortable on the ball we're going to have to bodge. But I'm happy with Ole-ball because there's a lot more to it than countering. Pressing high up is the key, then attacking like fuck in behind. Jose sat off and let them play, then knocked it long.
They offered us 25m and James for Pogba. Pisstake for a player they can’t get rid off.
He’s a great player, but doesn’t exactly fit the high energy/ no short term fixes thing we’re going for.
Quite a few times. Looked great at the WC back when Real bought him, but not fast or dynamic enough for top level club football. Bit of a Mata.
