Manchester United are set to appoint the first director of football in their 140-year history, as soon as the current restructure of the club and expansion of facilities are complete.

The move will allow United a continuity of football style and ethos as well as a more streamlined transfer policy. It is understood this is also recognition by the hierarchy of the need to modernise in an era when managers are often in situ only for the short term. This can lead to disjointed recruitment and a disconnect between the manager and the executive.

I wonder how Mourinho will react. The timing of the announcement and the appointment are interesting. The DoF won't be created until after the expansion of the training ground to accommodate the new womens team. Why not do them at the same time? Seems to me like they're expecting / hoping Jose to be gone by then because the DoF will sign players suitable for United's philosophy, which is is the exact opposite to Joses, so the cunt won't like any player we identify.

They should have done this after the Moyes fiasco.

Also, the restructure can't be working out if the chief transfer scout sods off after a few months.

Can't see Jose liking this much. He'll immediately be at loggerheads with the DoF over wanting to buy some 32 year old for £40m

Why on earth should it wait until after we've expanded the training facilities? Seems completely unrelated.

Not necessarily the worst thing for Mourinho. United is probably the first place he's worked where he hasn't had to deal with this stuff and it's probably preferrable to be told no - and actually offered an alternative - by a proper DoF, than to be turned down by an ex-banker wannabe.

Only thing is Mourinho might not get a chance to work with the DoF seeing as they're not creating the role til after Carrington's been done up. I would imagine that will piss him off, if he finds this new positive like.

Its probably because a decision has already been made on Mourinhos future. Best to have a clean sweep all at the same time so everything is in place for the new manager. The most significant phrase is 'continuity of football style and ethos' which is something Mourinho has never bought in to.

Woodward's waited until CL is impossible before. Maybe the standards have been raised, but Mourinho won't walk. He'll stay and wait for the payout

Doesn't his contract run out at the end of the season anyway. They'll just not renew it.
It makes no sense to bring this dof in with Mourinho still there. No one with any sense would want to have any continuity of his shite
