Each year Rant predicts the outcome of the season to come – winners, losers – Manchester United and others. There have been mixed results in over the years – 2009/10, 2010/11 and 2011/12. And 2012/13 proved to be particularly challenging, with Rant’s worst prediction performance yet – just four correct answers, with the Champions League final yet to come. How did you do?

Every year United Rant uses a highly complex mathematical formula developed by the boffins working on the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, Switzerland, to predict the future. Drawing on the same supercomputing power that is looking at the very beginnings of the universe, Rant forecasts the season’s winners and losers with uncanny accuracy. Well, either that or we take a wild stab in the dark. You decide!
Each year Rant puts its neck on the block and predicts the outcome of the season to come. There were mixed results in 2009/10 and 2010/11. Give it a try in the comments section below and we’ll revisit this post at the end of May 2012 to see who did best. No prizes. Just glory for the winner and good old fashioned public humiliation for everybody else.
In August Rant put its neck on the block to predict the season’s outcomes for the second year running. Revising the post nine months on we find that Rant correctly predicted nine of 29 variables reviewed in August. It’s four down from 13/29 a year ago, although with a number of Premier League placings very close.
One year ago Rant attempted to predict the outcome of the season’s major club and personal trophies. We did ok, despite taking some end-of-season flak to the contrary! This year we’re at it again. You try, and we’ll revist this post in May 2011 to see who performed best and worst. No prizes, just glory to the winner, public humiliation for everyone else.
In August Rant put its metaphorical neck on the line and predicted the season ahead for Manchester United, the major domestic prizes and European honours too. They say that today’s newspaper it tomorrow’s chip wrapping but on the internet opinion lives forever. There’s no satisfaction in some of our predictions coming true.
Making predictions in football is much akin to playing Russian Roulette, but with five bullets instead of one. The chances of success are minimal but undeterred Rant has placed the football gun against our temple and pulled the trigger. Bang.
