Hopefully none of em get long covid cos it looks career ending

It's gonna get us soon...
Yeah, it's only a matter of time really. Long covid is scary. Someone I know (but not very well) got covid back in March and she's still using a cane to help herself walk. Mid-30s, in decent shape, no health problems before. Just crap luck I suppose. That said, there's a difference between a virus lingering with you for some months and having it permanently. The real danger is permanent lung damage etc.

The rate it's going around at the moment, you have to wonder if the league can continue. Does this mean City is out of action for two weeks?
That's horrendous. I read long covid is caused by your immune system going into overdrive so anyone can get it regardless of age and health. Newcastle's Allan Saint-Maximin has got it bad. Quite a few big clubs were looking at signing him, but not now, not unless there's a way of fully recovering?

Imagine if Fernandes got it. Obviously it'd be the last thing on his mind, but United would be fucked. Not just our season but the next 5 years. They should really stop the season cos squads are coming down with it despite the restrictions, so they're clearly not working.

The total number of EFL games affected by Covid-19 related issues is 43 suspended matches. There has also been one Carabao Cup match called off.

Our semi against City is almost definitely off n all. They should cancel football as soon as. Hospitals are at 90% capacity, soon to be 100% with this new varient.

Fulham v Spurs tonight cancelled because Fulham have a major Covid outbreak in their squad.

Looking dodgier and dodgier... suspension of the league might be coming. The overall numbers of infected in the country keeps going up, and obviously football players aren't magically immune.

Suspend it for 3 weeks. Let clubs focus on the transfer window, players can train in isolation and combine it with a ‘mid season break’ then aim for a restart late Jan. may as well scrap the Euros too.

Yeah I agree. A break now would be good. There should have been one at xmas anyway cos the games are getting shitter. And if we don't lose players to covid we'll lose em to injury. Then when they come back they'll be fresh.

However it became apparent today that the Prem have no back up plan. It's staggering really as another major lockdown was always on the cards. But a break now would impact the euros. And the broadcaster & sponsor losses / rebates are already in the billions. The financial implications are horrendous for clubs as well. But the alternative is spreading covid. So we'll see what happens.

If/when they have a break I don't think it will be for very long. 3 weeks tops, not 2/3 months like it probably should be.

23771 in hospital with covid as of today. That's 5k more than at the peak of the first lockdown.

Back then the argument was football can't go ahead cos it's taking much needed resources away from hospitals. Surely that's still the case now.

I think it’s nearly 30k now. The hospitals must be a nightmare.

Fucking hell. The hospitals are set to be overrun in 21 days. Some already are, like they're cancelling cancer ops in one london hospital.

Btw Prem football continues https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/55534762

I can't believe football is continuing. Its not just the players - the support staff involved in training and putting on games must number in the hundreds for every fixture.
