Clearly the underlying discontent is still there, in varying degrees. The brazenness and disdain of the Super League breakaway may not have been forgiven. But for the moment it has certainly been forgotten. The natural hypothesis is that owners have simply bought off the loyalty and quiescence of their fans with flowers, chocolates and attacking midfielders. The truth is probably a little more complex, and stems from the fact that the Super League protests were often inflected with other long-standing grievances: a historical lack of infrastructure investment at Manchester United, poor performances on the pitch at Arsenal, poor strategic decisions at Tottenham, a general sensation of aloofness and disconnect at Liverpool. Fans of Chelsea and Manchester City, by contrast, have been largely happy with their owners, which is probably why their anger subsided quickest.

New signings may address these issues to some extent. But importantly, they offer at least the illusion of renewal, of appeasement, of listening. In the meantime, they create one hell of a distraction: not just swallowing up column inches and airtime but stirring debate and division, shifting the conversation on to more familiar, less threatening ground.

And so the real point here isn’t about the caprice or hypocrisy of fans but the sheer impossibility of sustaining any sort of concerted opposition to a power that is in many respects impregnable, that holds all the cards, that is able to set its own irresistible agenda.
Here comes the conspiracy theories because the club didn't buy a midfielder and you think he's a finished player? But why do you think he's a finished player. You're just ignoring his current achievements because of his age.
He's done better than Lukaku or any other serie a striker last season. He's done better than any other Juve striker in thier history last season barring himself one season prior. If Ronaldo is a finished player, Messi is a finished player.

Are you alright, Dozer. You seem to be getting worked up. It's not a conspiracy theory and I don't think Ron is finished.

This gushfest on Sky is ridiculous. It just sounds like a desperate drive for subscribers to help Sky & other broadcasters through the financially difficult post covid years which has seen them lose billions.

Sky are going so hard on this idea he's defied the aging process it has me thinking is he even human? Fub, as Rant's science man, could you shed any light on this creature that has re-joined the Prem? Perhaps we should all subscribe to Sky to find out what this transhuman footballing monolith even is

Ronnie just sunk the republic there with 2 class headers, 1 in 89th and winner in 96th.

Heartbreak for ireland, but the man is a beast, and a game changer. So so good in the air.

Hopefully he keeps on bringing that for utd.

Did miss a pen though, smashed the goalies face, so maybe bruno keeps the pens!

Listen. Ronaldo is a GOAT footballing unit. Part man, part machine. Underneath he has a hyper-alloy super athlete chassis. Bank balance controlled. Fully loaded, very cocky. Outside he has living human tissue. Flesh, skin, hair, blood, big cock. Sent from the future to make those scouse cunts feel terror.

That's all you need to know.

...could we have him as player manager, then? He's seen and done it all and couldn't be a crap as the incumbent.

:)) that's not actually far off what Sky are saying. The only thing that's missing is the "so become a Sky subscriber you cunts"
